Got rid of NIS. This took care of the hourglass problem I was having - very aggravating. I now use Zone Alarm and AVG Free. Do you know how to stop AVG from starting at startup. I cant find it in the control center. I want to be able to start it up from desktop after it boots. Your wondering why - I know!! Just would like to know. Thx ahead of time.

You are asking for trouble doing that. That is why there is no option for doing it. You PC is very susceptible to boot time infections if you do this. I highly recommend against even thinking about doing this. You could render the AV program ineffective. Something could infect you PC before the AV runs and two things could happen.

    1. it could make it so your AV cannot run properly or maybe not at all
    2. it could infect you system and your AV will not detect it when you turn on you AV afterwards. And now the only way to detect the malware would be to run a FULL scan of your system and you would have to do this everytime you boot. And it item one occurs, you will not be able to run a scan.
