So I have what may be a dumb question but it's something I am not totally sure about

I recently upgraded my mobo, cpu and ram I used my same old HDD and video card

My question is, Do I need to install the AMD chipset drivers even if I have a video card, I never did but am not sure if I have to or not

The AMD chipset drivers are for the CPU and associated circuitry (do you have an AMD CPU or an Intel?). Intel periodically releases updates for my 915GM/PM processor that I always install to keep it running optimally.

Hello Mdonah thanks for the reply,

I have an AMD FX 8320 CPU and an ASUS M5A97 R2.0 motherboard

It should be noted that the CPU could easy be a different make then the chipset. AMD cpu with an nvidia chipset for example, though it does tend to be rare anymore. A lot of chipset drivers contain lan and or sata control drivers as well.

Are you trying to boot your old HDD (and OS) off the new hardware? If that is the case, if the HDD controllers are not compatible you will get an 0x0000007B UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME blue screen. Its my opinion that you should always install the chipset drivers. They often contain drivers for other things then just onboard video.
