Well it me again with my problem again of chkdsk not running, before when i aske don here they recommended i used the symantec removal tool and CCleaner then run chkdsk and it worked however ever since that one time i am unable to run chkdsk, my computer is gettin pretty screwed up right now and i dont know how i can get chkdsk to run. Any suggections, since i aready using the norton symantec removal tool awhile ago it wont let me use it again (lame) does anybody know what i can do to help solve this problem its driving me nuts! i have never had this problem before i am running an HP Special Edition L2000 XP SP2 no anti virus software ATM and i did scans with spybot and ad-aware found some stuff took care of it. what else can i do?

Oh i also get this annoying problem while im in windows svchost.exe keeps craching and needs to be terminated. could it be related to corrupt drive?

    Oh god....
Any error messages when running chkdsk? Are you running with the /f /x or /r switches? Or just a read-only?

Ugh...with no antivirus app, this could very well be malware related (especially considering that spybot found problems). Have you run through the malware removal thread?

i am 99.99% sure this is not malware and currently i am running a bit defender online scan found Trojan.Downloader.BAG but that it thus far, i really think it something in my registry, when i want to run chkdsk i go to the start run cmd chkdsk/f and Y says will run on reboot but it doesnt run (it just goes and boots normally like it wasnt suppost to do something) it ran once after i used the symantec norton removal tool and CCleaner but thats it. This only other way i can get it to run is to insert my windows XP CD and boot from CD go into recovery mode and use the command prompt there but as u can imagine that is a pain in the ass and i shouldn't HAVE to do that to scan it.

And any ideas on svchost.exe crashing randomly or so it seems random previousally i have a problem with windowd DEP yelling at me about explorer.exe.

I will let you know the scan results and post them, i will also do a full dick san with adaware, but the reason why i dont have antivirus is that i know norton wants exclusive access when yours booting up and im not sure what other applications also do that.

Bitdefender agree to the license and then select Scan. DO NOT CHANGE THE OPTIONS TO SHOW ALL FILES SCANNED. That will make your logs huge and we don't need to see clean files. Once Bitdefender completes the scan:

Click-on the Detected Problems tab. Then select Click here to export the scan report

When the window comes up to save the report, change the Save as type: box to Text (Tab Delimited) (*.txt) and then in the File name box enter change to bdscan then click save. This will save a file named bdscan.txt in whatever folder you are currently in when you save the file (take notice of where you are at so you can find it later). This bdcan.txt file will actually contain HTML code that we can easily view later while reviewing your log. All we have to do is rename the file to bdscan.html.

Egad, the first thing I'd be doing is buying a larger hdd, and cloning your current drive, to the new one. That defrag is going to take forever, since you only have 2.61 GB free.

well when i get around to it i will xfer some files to my desktop that has 3x drives totaling 600gigs then run the refrag, my system does seem to be running better but i keep on gettin a crash from svchost.exe which is quite annnoying
