Chrome Browser: Why Black Background When Mode Set To "light"?

    Windows 10 Home - latest updates
    ASUS Vivobook Model # M1605YA-ES74

    Chrome browser: Executing a google search, the screen sometimes displays with a black background rather than a light background. When I refresh the screen, now the screen displays with a light background. In settings, I have set Appearance ==> Mode to "light".

    Any ides why this happens?
