Chrome Rejected Major Geek Download - Virus Warning

Tried to download the Product Key utility, got a 'Denied' warning from Chrome, claiming the utility was infected with a virus. Tried downloading all versions and all mirrors, but the results were always the same - Denied.

I selected bypass the warning, downloaded the app, and now get an orange warning when I try to install this utility.

Is there a security problem with Major Geek downloads?

 

I gather you are referring to Nirsoft's ProduKey 1.96.
As with many of Nirsoft's apps, they are classed as potentially unwanted or potentially unsafe, as in the wrong hands they can reveal sensitive information.
In this case, Produkey could be used to steal product keys, hence the detection.

The best way forward, is to temporarily whitelist the app in your AV, run the app and get the information you seek, then delete it and remove the whitelist entry.
