    Hi

I just signed up for this site after having read some really helpful forums. I went through a detailed forum about removing Claro Search, which has hijacked my Chrome and Firefox. I haven't noticed any serious side effects, other than it making itself my default engine in those two browsers (not when I first open the browser,m but every time I open a new tab inside the browser).

I DL'ed many of the Malware removal progs recommended in the thread, and used them, they found and deleted a ton of junk, but Claro is still there.

    Can anyone help?

We are going to be uninstalling your old version of FireFox and installing the new version. Except we will be using Revo Uninstaller. So do the below to save bookmarks:
    • Run FireFox and click Bookmarks.
    • Then select Organize Bootmarks.
    • Then on the next window click File and then select Export. Save the bookmarks.html file to your Desktop for later use in importing.
Now download and save the installer for the current version of FireFox but DO NOT install it yet. Get it here: Mozilla FireFox

You will need exit FireFox now and use Internet Explorer to continue with the below until we reinstall FireFox.

Start by uninstalling FireFox and then reboot. Do not skip the reboot.
After reboot, delete the below folders:
    • C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    • C:\users\UserAccount\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox
where UserAccount is the actual user account name being used.

Now reinstall FireFox from the file previously downloaded.
Import your bookmarks file. (similar process to exporting).

    Any better?

Now do the same for Chrome.

A simplier solution will frequently suffice. And that is just a reset to defaults which can be accomplished with the below link:

Thank you for the advice. Unfortunately, the uninstalling and reinstalling of Firefox doesn't help. I've done it a couple times now (using revo to uninstall) and with a couple differnt verions of Firefox. Still have Claro.

I've followed the extensive advice of some other threads at this site on this same issue, all to no avail.

Does anyone know the worst case scenario for just leaving Claro on my machine? Is it harming me?

What happens is when I open Fox or CHrome, it opens to the default start page that I selected (google.com). But then whenever I open a new tab, it's Claro.

Is there a way to determine if Claro is huring my system in anyway or making me vulnerable?

    Thanks

Actually, my last post was incorrect.

What I described only happens for Firefox, and the exact opposite happens in Chrome: in Chrome, when I open the browser, it opens in Claro, and when I select a new tab, it opens the tab in my selected page, not in Claro. The reverse of what ahppens in Firefox, which opens in the default page (google) but new tabs are always Claro when they open.

    Puzzling.

This is not sufficient. After uninstalling, you MUST delete all the folders related to Firefox too. Since you also say you have problems with Chrome, here is what I suggest.

Uninstall Firefox and also Chrome and DO NOT reinstall them until requested. After uninstalling them, reboot your PC and do the below since you never ran our required cleaning process so that we can provide proper support.

Please follow the instructions in the below link:

You must attach the logs requested so that we can help you properly.
