Clean A Cd?

when i try to delete files from some cds' that have downloaded files(mostly from here at geeks) i cannot delete them 'cause they are read only files. right click to remove "read only" designation no help....how kin i get rid of these files so i can download more useful stuff from our great site??? hmmmm??

You can't remove one file on a cd you have to remove all the files or reformat the cd if you have CD-RW......

Cannot Delete Individual Files from a CD-RW Disc in Windows XP
SYMPTOMS
You are unable to delete individual files from a CD-RW disc on a Microsoft Windows XP-based computer. However, you can add to or change the files on a disc, or erase the entire disc.

CAUSE
This behavior occurs because, by design, Windows XP does not support packet writing, which is required to delete individual files from a CD-RW disc.

Why can't I delete files from my CD-RW disc in Windows XP?

Windows XP cannot format a CD-RW disc for UDF packet writing, but it will accept unformatted CD-RW media. Unformatted CD-RW media is treated the same as CD-R, and you can copy files or folders to the disc, but you can only erase the entire disc, not the individual files. When using CD-RW media, only the "quick erase" function is supported by the Operating System.

If DirectCD or other packet writing software application is installed, and the CD-RW disc is formatted with that software, then the CD-RW disc works normally under Windows XP as a large floppy, and individual files can then be deleted.

Unless it’s a CD-RW you cannot delete the file. CD-R’s can only be written to once, and once the data is there it’s pretty much there.

Now, if it’s an RW then you can wipe the disk and re-burn stuff to it. CD’s don’t really act like normal disks in that you can’t just manipulate the data on them very easily.

well....looks like i am gonna have a nice collection of small silver frizbees...next time i buy these suckers i gonna get some u kin erase...

You should have no problems finding CDRWs are they are very common and not too expensive these days.
