Clean install of Vista - Installer Problems

32bit Vista Home Premium SP1 - I just formatted the hard drive and installed a clean Vista. I downloaded the drivers, and most of 'em installed normally, except for the Intel chipset drivers; I first tried the .EXE version and would get the error "%filename%.exe has stopped working. Click to close or to send error report". Sending the report resulted in nothing, so I downloaded the .ZIP version, unzipped it, ran the SETUP.EXE file and it worked fine (but it gave me some weirdness while unzipping; something about needing a password? but it unzipped and installed OK). And the NVidia video drivers did the same thing with the "such-and-such-file has stopped working, etc" so I unzipped it using TUGzip, and tried to run the SETUP.EXE and was given an error "SETUP.EXE is not a valid Win32 file". How can all this weird crap be going on with a brand new clean install? And I mean CLEAN. All I installed before the drivers was TUGzip for unzipping, and the Flash Player ActiveX component... nothing else..... I'm going to run a RAM diag and a HD diag, but I doubt that will tell me anything, so any ideas, thoughts, suggestions, or advice will be appreciated! Thanks!

(other than the above weirdness, the PC seems to be running OK - I'm using it now to type this message, and it surfs OK, but it's only been about 30min since the clean Vista install finished)

Did you try right clicking the setup.exe and run as administrator?

Yup... no dice. The weird thing is that this exact same problem happened AGAIN yesterday on a totally different PC that also had a clean install of Vista, and the problem happened on the EXACT same file: the Intel chipset drivers. Very strange. On the PC mentioned in my first post, I ended up using an older NVidia driver from September 2009 and it installed perfectly. I also used an older Intel chipset driver (on both systems) and it also installed fine. I'd be curious to see if others have this same issue....
