Clean old software ?

Hi all

I recently helped a friend of mine upgrade his IBM Thinkcentre into a fairly respectable games machine.

In fact the only thing we kept from the IBM was the HDD; my friend specificaly didn’t want to fresh install windows. I don’t profess to know everything but whenever I have built PC's in the past I have always done a fresh install.

Anyway I proceeded to build the machine with the old HDD in it current state.

The PC is mechanically sound and it boots up windows fine.

My question is - does any one know of a good (hopefully free) program I can use to remove all the old drivers and IBM software?

Obviously I need to do this before continuing to install the new drivers/software etc

As far as drivers, just go to Add Remove Programs under Control Panel and remove the ones you see there. The same for the IBM programs. Once that is done you should be good to go.

 

Old drivers:

Click START, then RUN, then type in:

CMD (press enter)
type in:
set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1 (press enter)
start devmgmt.msc (press enter)

Click Show hidden devices on the View menu in Device Managers before you can see devices that are not connected to the computer.

Remove the ghosted devices.

Reboot.
