Hey guys. First of all this site is awesome, I have learned alot already :)

Secondly, I have this PC that has been infected for a while. I am using Windows XP Version 2002 Service Pack 3. It won't allow me access to the toolbar and only half the time it loads the desktop icons, the internet and the start key don't work. The only way I can get things done is through the Task Manager. I've tried running Malwarebytes via External USB from my laptop but it just gives me this error

"Run-Time error '372' Failed to load control 'vbalGrif from vbalsgri6.ocx. Your version of vbalsgrid6.ocx may be outdated. Make sure you are using the version of the control that was provided with your application.

I have tried running Avast Antivirus. It installed fine but I get this error when I go to run the program.

    c:/Program Files/Alwil Software/Avast5/AvastUI.exe
This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.

The Run-Time Boot scan or whatever its called worked, it said it found 11 infections and deleted them, but there is no change in behavior.

I am very unsure of what to do at this point; I have googled both errors and have found no viable solutions. I am wondering if anybody knows any other good anti-malware or anti-virus software that I can install and RUN offline

I tried the Kaspersky rescue disk and it allowed me access to the internet via the Linux browser or whatever, but I couldn't do much. It scanned my computer for about an hour and gave me a huge list of threats.. It said it removed a bunch of stuff but when I booted up windows I get all the exact problems. It appears my Administrator account is corrupted too; it just gives me a white page when I click "Users" in the Control Panel. It won't let me transfer any files onto an external USB either. When I click "Network Connections" it's blank as well, even though the internet is plugged in and working and worked when I booted the USB drive.

I really need to get this thing clean without deleting the files

Are you able to transfer any of the scanning tools to the computer via cd or thumb drive? It also sounds like you have system issues, which may be corrected if you can run a repair install. Do you have the OS CD?
