    Hello,

My friend who doesn't know much about computers handed me over his laptop with the message 'it is not working properly'. So I thought it would be a good first step to check on malware. I followed your procedure. You can find the logs in attachment.
I notices there is no good antivirus or malwareprotector on it. Which free programs can you advice? (he has a very low income, so will not be paying for this).
Can you tell me what to do after reviewing the logs?

    Thanks a lot!

Uninstall the below programs. If you do not find them or they will not uninstall, just keep going.
    Bronze Aid
    DNS Unlocker version 1.4
    MediaDownloader

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista or Win 7, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now run Hitman Pro again and activate the 30 day free trial license. Then run a new scan and allow it to remove all the Malware and Potential Unwanted Programs that it finds. Then immediately reboot the PC. After reboot, run a new scan with Hitman Pro and attach the new log.

You did not attach the correct log file from Malwarebytes. You attached the protection log. We need the log from the malware scan and fix. Make sure that you fix all that it finds before you save the log.

    • Now please click Start, and type cmd into the search box.
    • You should see a cmd.exe and icon appear in the Programs area of the Start Menu.
    • Right click on cmd.exe and select Run As Administrator
    • This will open a command prompt window.
    • Type or copy and paste the following line in the command window:

      ipconfig /flushdns

    • Hit Enter
    • Exit the command window
    Now reboot your PC again.

Now please download OTM by Old Timer and save it to your Desktop.
    • Run OTM.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, Win7 or Win8, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).
    • Copy the lines from the below codebox to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C
(or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy): Do not include the word Code: which is just a title line of the code box
    • Make sure that you scroll all the way to the bottom of the code box to get the whole fix!

    • Return to OTM, right click in the Paste List of Files/Folders to Move window (under the yellow bar) and choose Paste.
    • Now click the large http://forums.majorgeeks.com/chaslang/images/MoveIt!.png button.
    • If OTM asks to reboot your computer, allow it to do so. The report should appear in Notepad after the reboot.
    • Close OTM.
Now navigate to the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles folder ( assuming your Windows drive is C). This is where your log will be
saved in the form of Date and Time mmddyyyy_hhmmss.log. Just look for the most recent .log file. Attach
this log file to your next message.

Now please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
    • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
    • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista, Win7, 8 or 10, right-mouse click it and select Run as Administrator.
    • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
    • Note: That JRT may reset your home page to a google default so you will need to restore your home page setting if this happens.
    • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
    • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
    • Attach JRT.txt to your next message.
Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, Win7, Win8 or Win10, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • the Hitman Prolog
    • the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles log
    • the JRT.TXT log
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Thank you so much for your elaborate answer!
In attachment you will find the logs you asked for.
I have no idea how the laptop is working now. I just did what you asked and returned it to the owner. He will keep me posted on how it is working. I also installed comodo for security. Is that enough?

    You're welcome.

Okay you need to make sure that the NameServer = 82.163.142.7 95.211.158.134 DNS addresses do not come back. When you say you installed Comodo, do you mean the full security suite or just the firewall? Hopefully the full suite to get full protection. However your friend may find Comodo to be annoying/too inquisitive about what to allow and what not to allow while it is learning all the processes that your friend uses. Some people can't handle programs that require too much input/decision making from the end user even though this gives the end user more control and understanding of what it running.

    Thanks al ot once again.
I installed complete Comodo internet Security. But today I heared my friend just bought a new laptop... after all the time I spend cleaning the old one...
On the new laptop he has AVG as antivirus and I installed McAfee Site Advisor. Is that secure enough? He really doesn't know much about computers or internetsecurity...

Thanks a lot for your help! Although now it appeared not to be needed at all; but I learned some new things along the way ;-)
