I use Webroot's window washer to clean the hardrive but have noticed that if i open a blank web page, put the cursor in the URL line, and use the down arrow key, it will show me names of things i have typed in previously.

Most of it seems like things i have typed in to the search space for yahoo or google. I don't think any of them were actual URLs but more search words.

Any clue how to clean out the cache?

And on a side note, i wouldn't mind hearing what people think of window washer's effectiveness.

    Thanks,

    stevo

    You should use CCleaner.
    Find it here .
It gets rid of pretty much everything for me.

First of all, you didn't mention which browser you have...

If you have IE it's quite simple:
1.Go to tools -> Internet Settings
    3. Empty page history
    4. Push ok

I think that should do it.

Windows Washer is a powerfull drive cleaner, and if you set it up right it should clean IE and its cache etc out...

But editing the registry is so much better. Atleast with IE.

    Typed URLs: HKEY_Current_User\Software\Microsfot\Internate Explorer\TypedURLs

is the location of all urls that are within IE.

    :p

Why download, when you can run a quick script or editing of the registry to fix this situation.

This might be a dumb question, but how do I view the registry? Will that show me a list of websites/URLs visited even if the history has been cleared?

So you run a "quick" script on every history and cache that you want cleaned out? No thanks. A nice little program like CCleaner which will do it all in one fell swoop suits me just fine. :p :D

Go to Start/Run and type in Regedit. That will take you to the registry. DO NOT CHANGE ANYTHING UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING, OR ELSE YOU WILL SCREW UP THE SYSTEM BEYOND REPAIR. Not sure if it will show you the history or not.

Because that's not all CCleaner does, so it's very handy nonetheless.

As far as editing the Registry, in my opinion that should only be done if there are no other reasonable solutions, and even then one should back up and take extreme care.

In this particular case, there are plenty of solutions, so editing the Registry would be silly, not to mention it's not a one off, so you would have to regularly do it.
