CleanMyPC Programme cases problems?

Hello all,

I recently used the CleanMyPC software on a friends pc. as I'd used it on my own with great results at speeding the system up.

I only used the registry cleaner option and the registry defrag, I of course made backups before I did anything.

Along with this, I also updated some large updates on his AVG antri virus, and installed O&O Defragger, but did not run it.

Only now, his computer has become even slower, and is even hanging and crashing. We have done the backups we created, but the system is still incredibly slow, I'm out of ideas of what it could be.

Does anyone have any idea on what might of happened? and how I could perhaps fix it?

Can you do a system restore to a point before you ran Hose, oops, I mean, Clean My PC?

 

I'll try the removing avg completely and a system restore, im really hoping that sorts the issue, can anyone recommend a different free anti virus?

 

I'll suggest Avast! or Avira.

As mentioned in an earlier answer, AVG has been causing problems with various computers because of a recent update. I think it has since been fixed.
