erlier today my computer was working fine and has been ever since i got it. i didnt download anything today or install anything different, but when i turned my computer back on i got this message "cli.exe failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005), and the ati catalyst doesnt work. also, following that i got a message saying that ALi5289.exe had to shut down. i tried uninstalling and reinstalling ati drivers, but it didnt work. i also noticed i can play guild wars still but not half life 2, so some things work and others dont. any help would be appreciated, thanks. brandon

Make sure you have the right driver for your card then you could try using ATI's uninstaller then reinstall the driver.

I have the right driver for the card. I have been using it for a month just fine. I also used the ati uninstal utility and then reinstalled but it still has the same problem.

What Operating System are you using? If ME or XP you could also try doing a system restore.

Good thing you have the tried the uninstaller. That damn link won't work.

well, i tried the system restore for win xp to 2 days ago. it fixed the ali5289.exe problem and half life runs and i can install stuff, but now it says "Fatal Execution Engine Error (0x7927baca)", and then "cli.exe generated an exception that couldn't be handled: Process id=0x20c(524), Thread id=0x210(528)." i also tried uninstalling and reinstalling but it messed up when trying to uninstall. and after installing new driver it gave me the same error message.

Have you tried installing the driver without installing the control centre? If not uninstall it again then do a custom install without the control center.

    Or try this first>>

Q2: How do I re-enable the old control panel after I’ve installed the Catalyst® Control Center?
    A2:

As long as the control panel and the Catalyst® Control Center are both installed, just un-install the Catalyst® Control Center and reboot your system to get the old ATI control panel back.
