Client database program wanted

I am looking for a free downloadable client database program. I need to be able to enter a clients name and details, then retrieve them by either surname or customer number. Any ideas would be great.:major

I was going to suggest OpenOffice also. It's got an Excel type of program that should work. If you just need some basic invoicing type of software, there's a free program called InvoiceMaker (I think). I use it and it works great, you can save your customers individually using whatever you want as a file name. I use an invoice number and the name: for example "153-Smith-Joe". If I need to find a particular invoice, I use the Windows search function to find the name or invoice number, or I search by date..... I think I downloaded InvoiceMaker from www.downloads.com (CNet's site).... I'll try to find the exact link if you're interested.

I presume your computer came with some basic software package...lets say MS home load data into spread sheet keep individual contact information in a row NOT A COLUMN. You can sort by column and your word program should offer template design to create invoices etc as well as a merge function that will work with your spreadsheet program.
