A friends computer will not allow me to change the time to a "pm" setting. When you bring up the clock settings, the am and pm are both showing as if you can select one or the other, but if you click on the pm, it jumps back to the am. The hours and minutes are fine, just the am/pm setting. She is using win2000

    Any suggestions?

The group that the user belongs to must have the right to "Change the system time" in the Windows NT policy administration. In Windows 2000 this option can be found under Security Settings->Local Policies->User Rights Assignments.

I will head over to her place tonight and try that, thanks for the suggestion. I will let you know if it works.

I tried changing Security Settings->Local Policies->User Rights Assignments. I made sure is showed everyone, but that didn't help the problem. The clock settings window doesn't look right. When you open the window, you are able to click on the hours, minutes ,etc. The am is showing in the correct place, but slightly below, the pm box is also present. It shouldn't be, you should be able to click on the am and then use the arrows to change it to pm. If you try, you can select pm, but as it doesn't actually change when you hit apply or ok. It remains on am.

Have you tried to stop and restart the Windows Time Service.

Is SP4 and are all post SP4 Updates and Hotfixes applied?

    HI,

I don't have the computer here, it is at a friends, but I will see if I can look into it tonight. Isn't the WindowTime Service for networks only? How do you stop and start the Windows Time Service? Would it actually change the appearance of the clock settings?

The Windows Time Service should be Started and Automatic. Whether the system is on a network are not. I don't know if it is effecting the appearance of the clock. But Windows does some pretty strange things at times, that effect some things you never would have thought of. Just want to cover the obvious things.

If someone else has any ideas, feel free to help out.

How about just setting the time in the BIOS.

I solved my clock settings issue! I went into the control panel, chose the regional settings, changed the time to 24 hour clock and then changed it back to a 12 hour clock! It worked, thanks for all your suggestions. I certainly learned lots!

    Glad it works now.

Like I said at times WIndows does some strange things for no apparent reason, and the fix is one you wouldn't normaly think of.
