I replaced the old IDE mobo with a new SATA mobo, now I want to put all the programs, docs, favs from my old IDE HDD to my new SATA HDD. My SATA HDD is in and running but can I hook my old IDE HDD up to the IDE that currently has the DVD on it and if I change the jumper to slave and copy the files I want to keep. Or do I need to use some cloning software to do this.

Do you have an OS on the new SATA disk? You can copy files or clone a disk, I have only cloned the whole disk, OS and programs. If you want to go that route, XXClone works well for me.

Yes they both have XP. I just plugged the old HDD into my other older computer, copied the files I wanted to a flash drive and transferred them that way. Thanks for the replies, I forgot I still had the old dinosaur around.
