Hey guys. I just bought a new Dell desktop which is not set up yet. It came with a 1TB Spindle HDD which contains a recovery partition with the OS etc... I have also bought a 120GB SSD which I would like to use to hold my OS and applications, then use the 1TB spindle drive that came with the comp as storage. Problem is, the OS installation flies are on the spindle drive. So would it be better to remove both drives and clone the spindle drive to the SSD before anything is installed, then just run the factory OS from the fresly cloned SSD, or should I install the OS to the spindle drive, then once everything is up and running clone it to the SSD and wipe the spindle drive? Thanks.

Or alternately, will MS provide an ISO copy of Win 8 that I can legitemately use with the Product key that came with my computer (the COA has never been used before)?

Thanks for the reply. Would you recommend doing it before or after the installation of the OS though?

Generally cloning from a mechanical hard drive to an ssd is not recommended.

if your instralling the OS, just install it to the new drive, why bother with cloning?
Cloning is used to move your existing OS to a new hard drive, if you reloading just start on the new drive... if you can get a Win 8 disk that is.
