I ran a full scan and IObitmalwarefinder quarantined two files. Cloud says I have 1818 threats on my computer and asks me to upload a file. Which file do I upload? The OS one?

Totally lost, but I know hacking is intermittent. One minute I can log in and the next I can't. I need to stop this idiot from taking over my computer.

    Help!

    Hi Lavander,
Is this what you are concerned about.....

    http://img143.imageshack.us/img143/3559/iobit.png

if so... then don't worry as it is not you that has that many infected files on your machine;), it means that Iobit have a total of 1818 files in the cloud being analized for threat level.
when you say that you are being hacked can you explain why you think this?? I have noticed in a few posts that you have made recently that you mention this quite alot, if you think that your machine has been comprimised insome form then I would suggest doing a full format and reinstall of your OS,and start from fresh ;), If it is e-mail/facebook and the likes that have been comprimised then change passwords for your accounts and change the email address that these accounts are linked to, install a good AV/Firewall here is my set up......

    Comodo Internet Security Suite (free)

Iobit Malware Fighter Pro (free licence off MA )

    Super AntiSpyware (free)

    Mawarebytes (free)

    Secunia PSI (free)

this works very well for me, and it is very light on system resources.

Hi Iain, yes that's what I see in Cloud. IObit quarantined two files.

Something really strange is going on with my computer. Because I am careful where I browse, and I don't download anything that MG doesn't have listed, I am mystified.

Earlier, I tried to run Advanced System Care4 only to find it wouldn't open. I rebooted my computer and it ran just fine but found nothing.

I have Comodo Anti-virus installed. When I tried to download the firewall, I was told I had incompatible files on my computer and it wouldn't install. I have Windows Firewall installed so would that make a diffrence? I would prefer to go with Comodo because it has proved an excellent program. Would Firewall be included in Comodo A-V?

I have Advanced Spyware from IObit (with a free registry key you guys kindly gave me). I think the only one I don't have is Secunia.

If my computer has been compromised, as well as my Gmail account, I know who did it. He is a vicious person with a long police record, and he is techincally able. Attacks are not just via my computer and the police are involved.

My Vista computer came with it installed so I don't have a disk. Never thought to ask for one, but I can go back to the store and make some demands. (I'm in the right mood for that.) The thought of removing and replacing my OS scares the heck out of me. I also have a split drive, and D carries huge documents I use in my work. So far, nothing looks compromised in there, but I did lock the drive behind Easy File Locker. I also use a password to open my computer. Lord knows how I can change it, but I'll check that out later.

As you say, the inability to log in at different sites one minute, and able to get in the next, points to something on my OS. (I don't know if I should approach Dell for help, but I'd rather trust MG.) I've been running different programs to check for things on my computer but IObit is the only one who came up with something.

Any suggestions you have would be appreciated.

    Hi Lavander,
I would uninstall advanced system care from your machine, if you are not familiar with the use of such programs they can royally **** your system. If it is possible for you to get a lend a lend of a copy of your OS, it would have to be the exact version of what is on your machine i.e... home/basic/premium.. ect... then make a copy of it by using either IMGBurn or Infrarecorder both of which are very simple to use, then you will have a copy of your OS for whenever you need it to repair or fresh install your system.
Have you been through the Malware removal steps here ?? if not then I would strongly advise this as a way forward, you will get deffinate proof that you have an infection free machine, then once you have the clean bill of health go ahead and install new security software....

I would uninstall the comodo A/V and install their ALL in ONE Internet Security Suite(AV/Firewall and Anti Spy + more) from here...

I also use Secunia PSI, this niffty little tool is brilliant, it will scan your computer and make sure that all sofware/programs are fully up-to-date and secure, thus removing any vunerabilities that may arrise, totally safe and free..

I hope that this is of some help for you.

Many thanks, Iain. Sorry it took so long to get back to you but I had to restart my computer several times as I followed your instructions to download and delete the programs you suggested. All is done now, but I haven't run any new scans this morning. I ran every scan I could think of last night. The Comodo version I had found a threat but couldn't eliminate it completely. If it still shows up with the full program installed, I'll come back.

I also spoke to a Nucleus technician this morning, because I couldn't get into my mail. He showed me how to get rid of the bells and whistles I don't like in IE, then he checked Crazy Browser, which I was using. It hadn't been updated in over a year so he advised deleting it. I have. When things settle a bit, I will re-examine Firefox and Chrome. It may be possible to eliminate the bells and wistles on them too. I hear IE is the least secure of the three, so I'll have to make a decision.

I'm hoping, when I run new scans on Comodo and IObit, I won't need to replace my OS. Scary stuff to someone like me. Neither of them wanted me to install Secunia, but I did and it ran a scan. Nothing found.

Please keep your fingers crossed for me. The scans will take a while to finish but I will be back later to let you know if anything showed up.

Thank you for all your help. I truly appreciate it, and I'm glad Major Geeks is around for folks like me.

    Cheers,

    Lavender

    Hi Lavander,
I am pleased things are looking better for you ;) !! I hope the scans come up clean, I would keep secunia running as it will keep all our system upto date, especially the more vunerable ones like java and and adobe.

Keep me posted on how the scans go, got my fingers crossed for you ;).

    Hi Iain,

It looks as if we've beaten whatever it was. All scans are coming clean. I'll probably run another tonight and one in the morning.

Thank you so much for your help. Installing those programs certainly kept baddies away from my computer. I'll run regular scans because I don't think he'll give up that easily.

I couldn't have done it without you. Kudos!

    Hi Lavander,
thanks for getting back and letting me know how the scans have gone, I am very pleased that they have all come up clean, the comodo suite is excellent at keeping the nasties out, but you must, yourself, err on the edge of caution as to what sites you visit and what,if any, software/programs that you are offered to install. Hopefully the security that you have installed will stop the person from getting access to your machine, I hope also that you took my advise to change passwords and linked e-mail addresses to your online accounts also, this will stop him trying to comprimise those also.

    Happy Safe Surfing.;)

    Iain.

    Hi Iain,

You were right about Secunia. I ran a scan last night and it found two programs that were obsolete and outdated so they could have allowed something to get into my computer. They're gone now. I will be recommending it to friends.

I'm very careful where I browse and I never download a program unless I can get it from Major Geeks or through MG at the author's site. IObit and Comodo give me the added protection, but I'm still going to be very cautious about where I browse.

Thanks you again. Without your help, I would still be struggling.
