CMD 'batch file' no longer performs in Win7

For over a year, double clicking 'file.cmd' would trigger the correct response. Now, a double-click merely opens it in a text editor. When I try to change the file association, I find that "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" is greyed out, with an indelible/irremovable tick for a text editor. I need two things : 1. How to reverse the greying out and 2. What program to recommend to run the CMD.

 

If you copy and paste what you see in the text editor we might be able to help.

 

Sounds like you lost the file association for .cmd files in your registry. There are fixes downloadable.

"There are fixes downloadable" Indeed there are, and the patch file for CMDs from http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/19449-default-file-type-associations-restore.html did it for me.
