Hi Guys, Sorry if this has been posted elsewhere, but I cant find a topic on it. For some reason, I cant open CMD, msconfig, regedit etc. It will open for a second, and then close. I also cant access certain website such as symantec. Hijack this wont open, and my Norton Antivirus, would not load. I have uninstalled and reinstalled with no luck. I dont want to format this PC, as there is simply to much to back up or lose. Can someone pleassssse help me, I am goin nuts

    Cheers
    Kymm

OS XP? Can you boot into safe mode? If so can you "run" anything?

Possible infection with the Backdoor.Prorat virus

Note: this is only a suggestion, there are a lot of viruses that block you from using any security programs/websites. There's a very high chance you've got one.
Try running the virus scanner from safe mode. I recommend AVG, norton really sucks.

No luck with any of the intructions I have found. Every page I try to load that is a removal tool etc cannot be displayed. I also just got a your virus is infected message from Norton, its infected with w32.ircbot. Does anyone know where i can get a removal tool from or removal instructions, because I cant get any to load.

    Try
    RemoveIT Pro XT SE

    http://majorgeeks.com/RemoveIT_Pro_XT_-_SE_d5205.html

Remove many viruses that other popular antivirus software cannot discover.
[Bazza] The only one I have found that will detect AND remove Win32 Trojans.

PS: Another banana bender, :D I see, although not too many bananas to bend lately. :p Bazza

Definately malware. I'd head on over to the malware forum here at MG.

Though, I bet you can run command.com (little slow).

    Edit:

Wow, just noticed that Vista RC1 has command.com still. Odd...

I had this problem myself and I was jsut searching the boards to see if this was a new or old issue. I got hit by some form of malware and I tried to use run> regedit/cmd/msconfig/ etc. with no luck.
I've seen a few other people posting similar statements, but what it appears to be is that some form of malware is creating hidden files called cmd.com, msconfig.com, regedit.com. Typing in cmd.exe will bring things up properly, though. I hope this is helpful to everone who may be having this problem.

But, once again, this is related to malware infecting a machine, and it needs to be handled with the following threads:

READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
NO HIJACK THIS LOG FILES BEFORE READING THIS: HJT Tutorial & LOG File Posting
    Then post in: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=35

I should have posted this in my previous post, but, alas, I forgot. :)
