How did you erase the CMOS? If you just reset it by the jumper on the mobo, make sure you put it back on the correct pins.

Don't panic, it is fixable, but go slow and look at what your doing carefully. All CMOS really does is remember your setup choices. I have had several machines go south on that front, usually only 4 or so parameters need reset, and they usually aren't too critical. If you know it read out the make/model of your motherboard, your video card (and it's I/O type if you can, like AGP X8 or PCI Elite), your HD type (SATA VS IDE is the norm).

You can usually (on most Motherboards) go into your BIOS setups by pressing the "del" key repeatidly until you are there. Think of it as an early branching decision during bootup, go into BIOS setup or go into the OS. Many computer have Optimal settings vs. fast settings, to start off go optimal. This will get you up and running, although probably at slow speeds. As you figure out the tweaks (remember, only 3 or 4 are necessary) write em down. If you make a bad decision and the computer locks up do what you did accidently again, and reset the BIOS.

It seems scary, but after you get the hang of it it is usually pretty easy.

As a thought have you removed the battery? this will reset the bios, thats the lttle circular dish by the cmos jumper. Leave for say an hour then replace, dont forget to earth yourself before touching anything inside computer. Have you had a close look at the 3 pin cmos Jumper as sometimes it is easy to replace back to 1 & 2 pin but in actual fact all you have done is put jumper on just the one pin, easily done. ;)

Don't leave us hanging, how did you resolve the issue? Was the jumper set wrong or was it the battery?

    Glad you got it fixed!
