I reformated my computer last week. Today is the first time that I have actually tried to run something in my DvD drive since reinstalling Windows Vista Ultimate.

When the DvD drive reads the disk, it doesn't autorun for one. When I click on my computer, the drive is showing the correct title of the disk, but when I click open, or explore it says that teh disk is empty and what would I like to name it.

Also, it's listing my DvD drive as a CD drive, when I do remember before the format it was listing it as a DvD/CD drive. I do not remember having to use a install disk for this DvD drive when I purchased it last year. I have updated the firmware for it, but it didn't fix the issue.

Any ideas what it's issue is?

    It's a Memorex 530L v1

Don't know for certain, but I had a similar problem with my LG drive. It would do the same to CD's, couldn't read or write CD's, but no problem with DVD's, I bought a new one :S

I can't afford to buy a new one unfortunately and I need to install software for college for one of my classes.

I had a similar problem the other week, i tried updating the firmware and finding suitable drivers, both with no luck. I then looked inside the pc because i'd had the cover off it to swap my HDDs and the IDE cable going to the back off the CD drive wasnt pushed in properly, i'd obviously caught it by accident.

You had the cover off or anything like that?

That did it, but autorun still isn't working.

    Any ideas on that one?

I've just realised i never actually fixed the problem on my own pc, I've got it aswel where the drive has listed itself twice (as a CD drive and then as a seperate DVD drive)

I've just tried to use the drive and i just get "D:\ is not accessible Incorrect function"

    hmmm

I've got mine working! Follow these steps, you may have to edit the registry, its no problem though, just read this link http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;316529

Right clcik on your cd drive in my computer and select properties. If there is a recording tab, click that and enable cd recording. If there is no recording tab follow the link above and that tells you how to enable recording onthe drive through editing the registry :D

Alternatively you could go to Device Manager, choose your drive, uninstall it, reboot and all should be well again.

I ended up just reformatting again. Now all is well... for the moment at least.
