    Hey,

My COD 4 keeps on hanging after 5-10 mins of gameplay, it gives me an ie3sp.exe error,

anyways I renamed the mssmp3.asi file to .bak and tried , it shows me anew error saying some library couldnot find mss32.dll file, however inspite of this the game starts but it hangs immedietly after I start a mission.

    My desktop specs are,

    OS: WIN XP SP2
processor: intel core 2 duo 3.00 GHZ
    RAM: 3 gigs
    graphics card: NVIDIA GEFORCE 9400gt
sound card: Maudio fast track pro USB external soundcard

P.S: other games like FIFA 09, call of duty 2, grand theft auto 3 run fine on my PC, I face the same issue with COD 5 world at war as well.

Can you please help me with this as it is very annoying to have such a powerful system and yet face such issues.

    Thanks a zillion.

Could be a problem your computer has with the engine, as CoD 4 and 5 runs on the same with a few small differences. You got drivers for the graphics card?

    Hey Cellon,

I have the latest drivers installed for both my graphics card and the external audio card.

first I thought it could be an audio driver problem but if that was the case al my games would have been hanging, I researched this on the new and it seems the problem is due to the shitty miles sound system or something, any ideas on that?

You have any other games with MSS that you can test?

Nope not at the moment but I believe most games these days use the MSS,
I believe grand theft auto 4 uses that and it runs fine on my pc.

Yes, GTA 4 uses MSS. I have no idea what the problem might be then.

Not necessarily. Games handle drivers differently, though games on similar engines obviously are more likely to have similar problems, as you noticed with CoD 4 and 5.

If your game can't find the mss32.dll file, can you? Do a file search for it, on your entire hard drive, and try to locate it. Make sure it is in the correct folder, and if it isn't there at all, reinstall the games to recreate it.

I searched for the mss32.dll found it in the COD 4 game folder, still the game hangs after 10 mins of gameplay, dunno wat to do :cry

In the root folder? If the game wants it in a different location, that might not help you. You haven't mentioned yet if you have tried to completely uninstall and reinstall the game yet, and if that did anything to change the problem. If you haven't tried it yet, do that. And make sure every single file that was associated with the game is deleted before you reinstall (except any save files you want to keep, of course).

I will try that, in the meantime I noticed something else,

I got a fan control software and increased the fan speed to 55 and the game ran flawlessly for about 1 hour and then again hung up.

Is COD 4 overheating my video card or what? or is my core 2 dup processor is not gud enuff for it ? any insights??

Ooooo! New info! New info is good. :)

I think you are on to something there. Open the case and take a peek at the video card, especially the fan and heatsink. Your C2D processor is probably a good one, but for CoD4 the graphics card still has to work pretty hard, and if there is a lot of dust covering the heatsink and fan, the card will over-heat. If it's not fixed, vital parts of the card can literally melt.

In addition to cleaning the card, turning down graphics options and cranking up the fan will probably make it better. If you really have a heat problem though, temporary solutions are just that, temporary. You need a permanent fix or it will steadily get worse.

I just checked my card(NVIDIA Geforce 9400 GT 1 GB) and the fan is working fine and no dust wat so ever, the card is hardly 2-3 months old.

I installed precision software, cranked the fan speed to 55 and then to 90,
maximized the card for performance too,the game worked fine for a while and hung up again.

Anyways I face the same issue with COD 5 world at war.

I don't think my card is not capable of handling COD when it has no issues with games like GTA 4.

I don't know enough about the graphics engines in those games to say that for sure.

So the card is not over-heating, that is at least good news. What about your drivers? Have you reinstalled, rolled back, made sure that the version you have installed is the optimal one for CoD? If the game is a bit older, the most recent driver may not be the best one for it.

I installed the latest drivers from the nvidia site over the factory provided drivers.

...And theres a twist in the tale, now my fifa 09 gives me choppy screens during gameplay, now I fear the safety of my graphics card, I fear that evga precision software has something to do with that.

P.S: I am using an external usb soundcard, Maudio fast track pro with the latest drivers, it could be a culprit too.
