Yep, I got it today on PC, I was owed some money at the game store for trade ins and figured I'd get it since I'm a big COD fan...... or should I say Infinity Ward fan.

Well Treyarch, they are a wonderful company, game looks like it's going to be good, I can't really say for sure because it's unplayable on my PC.

    I don't meet the min sys req's.

    See, my PC is only........

    AMD X2 6000+ 3.1
    3GB DDR2 800mhz
    ATI HD4890 2GB

, the req's are...... and this is minimum......

    Intel C2 Duo E6600/AMD X3 8750
    2GB Ram
    ATI x1950pro 512mb/Nvidia equivalent

Hmmm, so an X1950pro from 6 years ago is enough but an X2 6000+ isn't, interesting.

I get maybe 10FPS in single player if I'm lucky, this is with everything on low, 800x600 all extras switched off, it looks like an old PS2 game yet I get horrible FPS.

Now funny thing is, I can play MW2 maxed out at 25-40FPS, I can play Fallout New Vegas maxed out just fine, I can even play Empire Total War on med-high settings with no issues...... but aparently Black Ops is so awesome in power that I can't run it.

OMG Treyarch have done it again, I'm a little miffed at this but have been doing some reading and I'm not the only one with these probs, people with x4's and Quads are having similar/same issues.

If it's not a bug and it simply is the CPU requirements then Treyarch have performed a miracle , they have made the biggest screw up yet, just when I thought after previous screw ups they would have got it right, but no.
There is no reason whatso ever this game shouldn't run fine on an X2 like mine, when you compare it's graphics and textures to others games I can run fine it looks 10 years old.

    Lets hope for a patch.

    *UPDATE*

It would seem that the online works better than the Single player, barely but it is playable, now that makes even less sense.

Oh and the main server just went down lol

I've heard rumors of a massive memory leak that pushes the CPU up to 100%, regardless of what CPU you have... same rumor also hinted of a patch.

Yeah I've read quite a bit on it and Treyarchs official word this morning was "We're doing our best" which annoyed many people lol
I'm not surprised honestly, although from what I have managed to see of the game I'm quite impressed, if they can get it working properly I think it's definitely looking better than MW2 IMO, back to basics, not as many options but an added customizer and such like.
One way or another I will play this game at good frme rates, hell I even started looking at new CPU etc, just a cheapish x4 setup ($350 for chip, board and ram), but I really can't afford that until after xmas.

So my real opinion of Black Ops so far is impressive story, gameplay and MP in general......it just doesn't work properly yet :-D

You're in the same situation as I am with New Vegas! Yay, bonding moment! :highfive LOL

I bought it for the X-box 360 (kids gave me one so I could play online with them . . . I raised them well :-D).

It works fantastic on the x-box - single player or multi, online or off - and has the best graphics of them all. Heck of a good game so far. I did notice an update for the game had to be downloaded first - 10 or 12 mbs, as I recall.

Hope they get the PC issues ironed out soon for you.

lol This is an unfortunate situation, I assume you still havn't got FNV working although I still think it'[s weird, see with COD there are millions of people with my issues, litterally it's 1 in 100 who can play it with some decent frme rates.... FNV I havn't seen a whole lot of probs, mind you I havn't been looking because it runs ok for me. :-D

@Spad... Glad you got a working copy, I figured the consoles would hndle it better.

The Block Ops Forums are and have been screaming for the past 2 days with little info from Treyarch, you would think with such a massive amount of people with the same bug that they would be able to say "Ok guys, we got it, we are working on it nd will be releasing a patch to fix *list issues* within the week"

Or something to that effect, what annoys people more than a game that doesn't work is the lack of explination of WHY it doesn't work and WHEN the people can expect it to work properly.

I did find it amusing that the PR rep hadn't said anything about it but had been bragging on twitter about how he's in the top 15 players in Zombie mode... wow, way to kick you customers in the nuts "Yeah you guys can't play becuse of some bug, but my copy works fine and I'm having a great time"
I find that quite amusing :-D

New Vegas actually has a ton of problems... but mine is more or less unique. Still working on it :)

  9. Nedlamar

    Nedlamar MajorGeek

Yeah your problem is a little odd, I wish I could sugest something you havn't already tried but we both know thats pretty unlikely.
As for other problems, what other problems? Other than normal glitches (Unlocked doors not opening, NPC's not moving after conversation etc) that most of the time can be quickly fixed with a console command, I havn't seen any issues that I can really say "Annoy" me, maybe I'm just lucky with it, obviously NOT the case with Black Ops lol

Aparently they released a patch today that most are saying didn't do much, I've yet to try it, Thursdays are a long day for me and I get home late so don't feel like fighting with games lol

  10. Mimsy

Mimsy Superior Imperial Queen of the MG Games Forum

It did make a difference. The game is now playable smoothly and gorgeously in full-screen on my GTX 260. Aside from the crashing, that is. LOL

  11. Nedlamar

    Nedlamar MajorGeek

Yep, I second that, I didn't get it quite perfectly but it's going on high'ish settings, good enough for me, online is still a bit laggy but they have said they are still working on that.

  12. Mimsy

Mimsy Superior Imperial Queen of the MG Games Forum

My bad. I'm still talking about New Vegas. :p Which I have FIXED! IT WORKS! :celebrate

Details in the appropriate thread. :)

    Yay!!!..... Bummer :(

The patch for COD done quite a bit of good, still not quite there, I turned the AA and AF down and it got worse lol, go figure.

  15. Speculant

    Speculant The Confused One

I was going to get Black Ops for PC...but this makes me think I should wait a while for all the bugs to get fixed.

Also, it kind of pisses me off that they can't include Xbox 360 vs. Windows multiplayer. Both are made by the same company, I seriously don't see how or why this can't happen.

  16. Mimsy

Mimsy Superior Imperial Queen of the MG Games Forum

Microsoft won't let Xbox live do it. They tried it with Shadowrun and it was a huge fiasco. The average 360 player was so much worse at the game then the average PC player, not to mention severely handicapped by not having a mouse and keyboard with programmable hot keys, that it turned people away from the game and adversely affected the sales through negative word of mouth.

Plus Microsoft sees the PC as the biggest competitor to their console, especially in Europe, and are actively trying to stop 360 exclusives from going PC and multi-plats from being compared. It will never happen.

How about they just figure out how to keep games working properly on each system before trying tricky stuff.

  18. Mimsy

Now you're suggesting they use common sense and apply logic. How long have you been a PC gamer again...? :p LOL

  19. Nedlamar

    Nedlamar MajorGeek

Black Ops patch of the 19th Nov......... broke the game lol, it was working pretty well up until this patch, now it's all lagged out again.
I'd love to meet the Treyarch devs and shake them warmly by the .....throat :-D

Anyway just to let you guys out there know, COD BO is currently only operating at about 40%, that is IF you can connect and IF you can find a server with a ping lower than 300 and IF no one else in the match has a 999 ping and IF the gods are smiling on you.

One of the patches simply addressed some weird config values the system was setting. It might be worth deleting your configs and trying again. Some tweaking may be in order if the performance still sucks.

Look up the multithread and multigpu dvars and make sure they're set to the correct values.

Some people have reported trade offs from the GPU to CPU when lowering their detail levels. I haven't seen this, myself. 4x AA, high texture detail and trilinear filtering seems to hit a sweet spot for some.

Yeah I've fiddled with lots but to no avail, I mean it's playable it's just when I encounter an enemy I will freeze and die, almost identicle to playing against someone using a lag switch.
So last night I decided I'll just wait for them to fix it, since my KDR and other stats now make me look like a horrible player (which I'm actually not, I'm halfway decent without the laggyness). So while I'm waiting I also decided to play Combat training which is actually quite fun, it's alowing me to test new setups and ideas, snipe spots etc while in a realistic (online lol) enviroment (instead of just running the maps alone), it's also showing me that my aim is NOT bad since my stats on CT are through the roof. Ok so it's AI but it's AI with 100% acuracy, I started off on Regular and after warming up I've moved it upto Hardened which seems the closest to actual online play.
i put it on veteran but thats just laughable, quite fun but you don't even get a chance to fire, even sniping from well hidden position, you see an enemy around 150-200 yrds away and he just stops, turns..... blurp.... you're dead lol , the SP on Veteran is how I always play COD but the CT on veteran is somethng else.
It's like going up against a bunch of Terminators with Aimbot set to full :-D

And I also noticed that even in CT, the 2 maps "Jungle" and "firing range" still lag like an SOB, no matter what game mode or connections there are, those 2 maps are giving me horrible lag and I'm still not sure why, I'm thinking maybe they are more graphically intense, more detail?... who knows.... not I...... not Treyarch aparently lol

I have been having the same problems so I decided to just play it from the PS3 instead which works perfectly fine and it was patched on PS3 a couple days after it was out and that fixed almost all bugs.

    Hi Guys,

a lot of the technical stuff is going over me head. But I would like to know what is the current situation with this game.

So could someone tell me if I buy CoD BO today from the shop, what patches if any will I require and where I get them from.

Or are we still at the stage to let things settle down a bit before stepping into the water?

    Thanks
    Cozzielex

The patches will download and install automatically through Steam (the online client BO uses)
As for the stability, I havn't played for a while but I know there have been a couple more patches this past 2 weeks.
The single player works ok anyway, the online I couldn't say but will probably play some point over the weekend and I'll let you know.

It's worth getting because it is a good game and even if it isn't quite stable yet , it will be in time.

Having said that, have you checked you meet the requirements?
If you ran MW2 fine it doesn't mean you will run BO ok since the sys reqs are much higher.
Post your system specs and I'll tell you if you are likely to be able to run it, the listed specs are not acurate since I don't meet them but I can run it (or at least I have run it) pretty decently on med-high settings.

    Thanks Nedlamar,
I've seen and responded to your post above re.MOH for which I thank you.
Just in case I go for CoD I tried 'Can you Run it' and failed for 'Black Ops' (on my CPU), but just in case it will play to a reasonable degree, here are my specs:-
    XP Home Service Pack 3
CPU= Intel Pentium Dual Core E6800@3.33GHz (This is the item which fails 'CYRI')
    2 MB RAM
    GeForce 8600GT.
I think that's all you need (?); do you think it's worth a gamble to see if it will run on low specs at say 70% performance?
    Thanks
    Cozzie

  26. Nedlamar

    Nedlamar MajorGeek

Well I run it just fine on an AMD x2 6000+ 3.1
What I would do if I were you is search the internet for other people using the same CPU.
Personally I think you'll be ok, maybe have to run it on lower settings but I think you'd run it ok. One of the patches was a compatibility patch for dual core CPU's.

I would like to clarify by saying I am in no way guaranteeing it will work for you.

Maybe try and get a demo if available.

    Thanks Nedlamar,
Good advice which I will follow. I'm going to buy MOH first though and wait until after Christmas for CoD, who knows what Santa will bring or whether in a few months the original prices will drop.
    Thanks again
    Cozzie
