I'm not sure of the specific mission name but it is about halfway through the American campaign. It happens when I am fighting my way along the bottom of a long canyon where you are getting shot at from the cliff tops.

The game has played flawlessly on my new built for probably 5-10 sessions. It's playing on Win 8-64, adjusted for XP SP3 compatibility.

Is there anyway I can diagnose this problem? The game crashes but I only see a Win 8 generic non specific error message with no error codes.

I'll try to use an earlier restore point in the meantime and check out any recent programs I've added.

    Thanks.

    Hi

What was the generic error message that Win8 gave?

When the game crashes is it just that it disappears from screen or do you get any graphical or audio glitches before or as it crashes?

I would be tempted to re-install your chipset and reboot, then install the latest graphic driver for your model card then see how you go.

Well. I was wrong. About several things. I even had the wrong game!

Last night I was trying it again and found the error message. (Not used to Windows 8 yet, at all. I didn't see it at first). The game is actually Medal of Honor, the Breakthrough add-on.

    It was:

    Problem signature:
    Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
    Application Name: moh_Breakthrough.exe
    Application Version: 1.0.0.1

    ...................................................................

I've only been playing two games on the machine. Medal of Honor and Far Cry 1. Far Cry now doesn't run at all (It ran fine before). Prior missions of the MOH start ok but now still crash with the same error message.

It seems to be a sound issue. I do recall trying to use a higher sound setting in a game but I don't recall which game it was.

Hopefully this provides a little more info.

I tried a few restore points with no change.

    Thanks.

ps When it crashes it goes black instantly, then the Win8 error screen appears. I did notice last night though that the graphics were a little bit off. There were some snipers lying prone up on a high cliff...I could see them seeming to be slightly hanging in mid-air with no cliff under them.

I was able to get Far Cry running ok again by re-configuring it's sound down to medium.

I was hopeful, but the Medal of Honor still crashes at the same point with the same error message.
