I converted several FLV files from YouTube to AVI file using a free online converter. Well, that seemed to work because I then saved the new AVI files. When I tried to play them in the windows player, it would not play them and said I didn't have the right codecs, but I have no idea what codecs are used. I downloaded a file from MajorGeeks (Shart007) to get codex, but that only worked for 3 of the videos. I don't know what to do now and I need these other videos....any help would be soooo appreciated.

    Hi fish04,

    http://www.cccp-project.net/

After the install is done, you may have to use the windows media player classic that comes with the download instead of the currently installed media player.

Out of sheer respect to your problem I just wanted to add my 2c... I tried Klite/CCCP/Nemo codec packs and mostly they just mess up my PC. Not saying this is a 100% solution but it works for me...

Which codec's you'll need to download is:
DivX (if you have legal key to decode AVI's) - AVI
Xvid (could be used to decode AVI's too) - AVI
    QuicktimeAlternative - MOV
    RealAlternative - RM
Matroska_pack_Full (This seems to be a codec pack... :confused or so they say) MKV
    Ogg Codec .OGG
FFDShow codec (can be setup to decode FLV's) .MP4

Most of these can be downloaded from www.free-codecs.com

If you have those codec's install them as listed and just check some of them ask for configuration. Then just check that they do not try to decode other codec files. Real and Quicktime Alternative comes with MPC (Media Player Classic) so use that to play any file.
What I've learned (I think) is that a file like AVI or MKV isn't one set codec being used. They are just containers for different compressors. I've seen MKV's that use AVI for Video compression and MP3 for audio... and then the next MKV used h256 Video compressor and AAC Audio compressor.

CCCP does work well... but I had bad experiences with packs. If you feel like using individual codec's try these. Just be prepared to fiddel with some settings if you have to have subtitles. :) Hope this helps.

    Oh yeah... Hi BTW... :wave
