Codec issues

Hello,

I bought a Lenovo T61 with windows vista. I am having problems with my sound. When I listen to a video clip off the internet the sound comes out bad and squicks, sounds like cartoon. When I listen to MP3 the sound is fine. I heard it is codec issue?

Please advise.

I downloaded the codec pack you suggested but it didn't help
Any other ideas?
