I have about 1000 songs on my Comp. All of them used to play...now some won't. How do I get codecs and licenses to play them again? Some of the ones I am having problems with were ripped from CD's I no longer have and some were downloaded from the Internet. Appreciate any help you can offer.

    Hi

What Windows version and Service Pack do you have? what media player do you use to play your music?

The licences are a hard one of you did not save the specific DRM licence (in Media Player it would be 'Tools' then 'Licence Management' then click 'Backup Now', then you could recover the licence file), codecs are the easier one and try the ones below

If using XP and Vista then this HERE
If using Win7 then this HERE

The codecs will just deal with the various media formats and not licences. As for licences you may need to see if you can re-download from the music service you used to get the DRM tracks or re-rip them, then make sure you backup the licence for recovery purposes. Maybe able to check the usual location of the DRM licences for the files C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\DRM but if you have re-installed Windows or on a different PC then your out of luck.

    Hi David,

I am running WinXP service pack 2. I don't like service pack 3. I am using AIMP2 for media player. This comp came with Win Media player 11 and it sucks. Thank you for the info. I did download the codecs you suggested. Most of the ones I can't play are from ripped CD's. Any place on the web to get the licences?

Are any of these songs DRM protected? That is the only reason you would need a license to play them.

All of the ones that are unplayable are protected and are format WMA. When I first ripped them, they played fine, but now they won't...still trying to figure out why.
