Should stores be allowed to sell alcoholic products at a temperature cooler than room temperature?

I think no as this would tempt people to drink as they drive, which is illegal.

any other thoughts on the matter that I am overlooking?

Yes, why should a responsible citizen have to collect these beverages warm/hot.
Any idiot willing to drive whilst drinking, will consume alchohol.... warm, hot, cold or frozen.

    Cheers..

I agree with you, we are holding responsible citizens accountable for those who are not responsible.
but by your thinking, why do we check IDs? Why not just trust people to be of the correct age to buy alcohol?

The government is trying to protect citizens, so not allowing selling of pre-chilled alcohol would be a deterant to drinking and driving.

I think the government should indeed treat people like idiotis, because you have to.. dont they do that already anyway?
    school zones?
    speed limits?
not allowing me to use crack and other drugs whenever I want?
I can't even smoke at the ball park anymore!

I laughed at this one because I suddenly had a vision of someone eating ready made pizza in their car, then a different person being unable to get the pre-made pizza in their car, driving, eating a frozen pizza.
Then I thought about what they person would be thinking, would anyone, eating frozen pizza or drinking warm beer, while driving, think, Oh Im an idiot for doing this while driving!"?

    more likely they are thinking:
-those laws are for people who don't have MY tolerance or MY skillz! I am the exception to the rule!
school zone?oh, hmmm, this gulp*THUNK* gulp beer is soo good!"

    CHEERS to drivig drunk! FREE*THUNK*DOM!

In Ohio, one can buy alcohol from drive through liquor stores. In Indiana, there is a fight brewing about the sale of cold beer in grocery and convenience stores, It is not out of concern for public safety that they are forbidden to sell cold beer but to protect liquor stores.

Restaurants and bars sell cold beverages. Does that encourage people to drink and then drive?

    Stores here sell alcohol chilled.

    Not seeing a problem....

Most DUIs here are idiots driving from bars, not grocery stores.

Of course motorway driving is boring as hell without a few cool beers.:-D

In the uk every store who has an alcohol license can legally sell it cold, only the supermarkets don't take advantage, the only reason I can surmise is that it's too expensive to keep cool and most people buy alcohol from the supermarket in bulk.

Most 24 hour places don't sell alcohol, just fuel and a small selection of groceries, if they do sell alcohol it's during the day as after about midnight all take away alcohol sales are stopped, clubs can stay open into the night but only if they have an all night license.

I think the uk laws are pretty good, the tax on alcohol is far too high though.

Exactly what I was going to say. I haven't seen a store that doesn't sell cold beer since I started paying attention to such things. You can buy it 7am to 2am (noon to 2am on Sundays). Most grocery stores have a walk-in cooler, and you can even buy cold beer at the drug store. Every gas station/convenience store that sells it, sells it cold. Most of them use the shelf space for other items than room-temperature alcohol, with the exception of hard liquor.

So do we legislate to prevent stores from selling cold soft-drinks, too? After all, too many of these are bad for you,too...0_o.
(Yeah, yea, they're not illegal, (yet), but in the interest of your own health, ya know? rolleyes ).

I concur with this thinking; I didnt know people got drunk/duis from buying alcohol from QTs/gas station/convenience stores.

I was hoping that someone would be able to add what I cant find; hard evidence, proof of something.

I made this thread when a friend of mine told me she was tempted to buy a colorful, alcoholic beverage when she was driving through from missouri-->Illinois/Indiana to Kentucky just because the display was huge, tantalizing in its different colors, it looked very refreshing as she was driving in the heat.
    She rarely drinks alcohol.

So, I made this thread to get imput. I find anything useful. The posts are not getting beyond the cliches/platitudes/anecdotal evidence.
Reading remarks such as: Most DUIs here are idiots driving from bars, not grocery stores without a reference to support this as a fact encourages the belief to think its simply made up or a "convenient lie". For the reason that it adds an opinion to the "fact", labeling someone as "idiot" is an opinion. The "fact" given that, DUIS come from bars and not gas stations" isnt given any support.
then there is the missed point, if your child were hit by someone and killed/maimed, and the drivers wasnt above the legal BAC level, but had a open bottle of alchol in the car, (BUT NOT DRUNK according to BAC) is that ok?

so while I appreciate any work you put into this thread, I'm not getting anything out of it.
I am contemplating a new thread about if police can confiscate your phone after an auto accident to see if you were texting while driving. But I don't quite understand that issue well enough to have an opinion on that.

    wut?

oh nice, try but your attempt at sniping isnt thought out, at all, but I am confident you did try your hardest!
dont stay up so late working on these posts, you need some sleep, my friend.

The point of the alcohol is not that its bad for you? where did you get that idea?
I am a firm believer in being allowed to do whatever you want to do as long as what you do does not interfere with others and what they want to do.
I wouldnt care if people drove drunk on the roads, my problem is I have to share roads with these drunks.

I don't care if a person wears a helmet on a bike, or doesnt wear a seat-belt. my problem is when that brain injured person is on life support costing tax payers money, etc.
That's why personal responsibility is a big issue with me and having the government take care of you isnt the answer, as far as I know. Im open to having more facts, but just not in this thread, since I'm moving on and dumping this thread, Im done with it and absorbed all I could from it.

Whatever, dude. Meaningless, irrelevant, personal attack, of no value whatsoever. Sorry, I don't eat Troll bait.rolleyes

So drunk driving is good for you, uh. I thought that was the purpose of the "question/thread"

Thing is, you have supplied NIL evidence, (as per usual), that stores serving chilled drinks increases the D.Y.I. accident percentage. If you have, let's see it. I'd be interested, (really). If not, then the 'information' will be treated accordingly.
Already been pointed out that most D.Y.I. accidents occur when idiots drive home from Bars and parties drunk.
As usual, nil evidence to back up claims, and personal attacks. Way to go.rolleyes

    right what personal attacks?
    where?
you showed that I made none, but you say I did to spin facts.

You toss in your emotional and opinions, as usual
Evidece? there is none, I asked a question in an attempt to gain evidence/proof, I get none and I said I had none, so telling me what I just told you isnt useful, but thats your MOA(LOLZ)

I see you make this whole useless post, that's your M/O as usual being super non useful

Im working to learn and absorb useful facts, you just seem to enjoy showing off your inability to comprhend what you read and provide attempts are insults
good luck to that and welcome to my ignore list

watchntv, I am tired of you attacking members, asking for advice, then bashing people giving their own opinions which you asked for in the first place. If you want to get along with others, stop throwing the first stone, and realize you need to work on your communication skills.

Moderators shouldn't have to constantly monitor everything you do here to avoid flame wars from starting up. It is childish, and we are tired of it.

Pull your nonsense one more time and you will be taking a vacation for an indeterminate length of time.
