    Hi there,
I've got an annoying problem with my PC.
    I'll start from the begin.
I bought that PC in December 2009. Even though it hanged up a few times I thought it was Windows issue. Unfortunately with time it started hanging up/freezing much more often. It happened especially when I was playing games, but even games without any good graphics. I also used to get blue screens, funny colours all over the screen or the computer was simply restarting. What is more, it always froze when I was doing a 3dMark 2006 test on the CPU test. I decided to send it back for the warranty in April and received it back in May; the report card said that they replaced a faulty memory. It didn't work fine from the start, because when I switched it on for the first time Windows didn't load (I can't remember what the problem was but I reinstalled Windows) and after reinstalling the OS I had a problem with \Boot\BCD status 0xc000000f and 0x00000098, which I quickly fixed. I hadn't had time to use a computer much since and started using it again in July. Problems continued immediately. Computer kept freezing, hanging etc. After a while I started having problem with a cold boot. When I switch the PC on the screen is totally black and I have to wait about 5 minutes before I can restart it, otherwise it won't load. Unfortunately the time of waiting seems to be increasing. Today I restarted it after about 5 minutes and nothing happened, I had to wait few more minutes before it finally loaded. I also got some blue screens (screens in the links below). What is more, sometimes the screen goes black when in Windows and I'm not doing anything and I have to restart the machine. Strange thing is that when I do a 3dMark 2006 test now, the CPU tests have only between 0 to 2 FPS but the result is fairly normal (link to the screen below). Furthermore, Last week I did some MemTests86+ and It was showing a lot of errors. However, when I took 3 RAM sticks out and ran the test, it didn't show any errors. I tried that with every stick and when they were alone the test didn't show errors. I ran the MemTest again today with all the sticks inserted (probably in the different slots than before) and it strangely doesn't show anymore errors. I also reinstalled the Windows again yesterday and the boot file problem happened again (can it be a HDD problem?).
I also found out an interesting thing: the memory I've got isn't listed as the compatible one in my motherboard's book.
My PSU is only 550W, which I think isn't enough for such a machine, but I don't know if that is the problem.
Computer was bought from Mesh, who can't even be bothered to reply to my posts on their forum. The PC is still on the warranty but I don't want them to replace a random part and send it back to me. I feel like I really need to tell them myself what's wrong with it.
I use Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit)
    Any help/suggestions will be appreciated.

    These are my machine's specs:

    Hi

The PSU does seem a little low powered for your system, especially if you have any USB devices plugged in as well.

If you boot into Safe Mode does it run ok? or is this BSOD right from pushing the power button?

I would try just two sticks of ram and see if the PC works ok, as its weird that you gained ram errors then gained none, this could lead to the motherboard needing a BIOS update if ones available, but BIOS udpates are not to be taken lightly (so as PC is within warranty I would be asking MESH to advise on this, I know you have posted on their forum but the tech support agents may not see all posts, so call them)

Did you get the Windows 7 DVD with the package, if so try the System Recovery options on the DVD and try the Startup Repair

If you have a spare SATA cable change the HDDs cable.

    Thank you for your answer.

Well, the only USB connected is wireless device that operates mouse and keyboard. I've got a lot of USB slots though; both on the back and front of the computer. There are also card readers on the front.

I haven't tried the safe mode, but the most recent BSOD happened just after I typed my password in, even before logging into Windows. I'm gonna try to do some things in safe mode tomorrow and see how it goes.

I've tried 2 sticks in any combination, I also tried 1 stick and I still have a cold boot problem. The computer just won't start after I switch it on in the morning after cooling down whole night. I have to wait few minutes and then restart it, so it will finally start properly. I'm gonna try with updating BIOS and will update you how it goes.

Yes, I've got the DVD. I tried all the recovery options, startup repairs, etc. Nothing helped. It seems to be a hardware problem rather than OS problem.
Today after few seconds in Windows the screen went grey and had vertical grey/black stripes everywhere.

I think I've got one so will try that as well tomorrow.

I'm also planning to visit my friend and try to connect his 750W PSU and his graphic card to check if maybe one of them could be a problem.

    Hi

Cheers for the answers to the questions, this does help greatly.

Great idea to try a friends PSU and GPU, I would try the GPU first as I have an idea that the problems could be stemming from your ATi Radeon 57xx card, have come across other users who have had the same grey screen as you gained.

Then try with the borrowed PSU and then your ATi Card (dont forget to plug in the extra 12v power connection for the card)

*If your friend has an Nvidia card then do clean uninstall the drivers and soe instruction below on this, and also do it before installing your ATI card back.

    Hi again,

    Thanks for your suggestions!
I've tried friends GPU and PSU...

We first put his GPU in my computer and it worked without any problems.
We then put my GPU into his computer and... it worked. (he's got 750W PSU)
So we decided to try his PSU and my GPU together in my computer and it worked again.
After all this we put my GPU and PSU back into my computer and it worked, but it was probably because it was warm already.

It's quite strange to me. Any ideas? :)
I haven't updated BIOS yet though, because wanted to try his hardware first.

PS. I've got one more question. Is it normal that if I run 3dMark and it goes to CPU test, the FPS veries between 0 to 2, it's never higher. The results are fine though.

Sorry for 2 posts in a row, but I can't edit the previous one any more.

Strange thing. I haven't touched the PC since yesterday, I switched it on today and it didn't have a cold boot problem... Very strange. I'm installing GTA 4 now and will test it on the highest details, see if it still hangs.

:confused It happened to be a one time 'accident'. I switched the PC on today and a cold boot problem continues.
I've noticed something else though. When I touched a PC occidentally (very lightly), the screen went blue and I had to reset it. What is more, when my girlfriend was shutting a drawer in the cabinet next to my desk, strange dots appeared on the screen (link below) and in few seconds I had a message that 'display driver stopped responding and recovered'. I also put my knee near a computer to look for something under the desk and the screen went black and I couldn't do anything. That PC drives me crazy... :cry
