Com+ Problems

Greetings!
I am in the process of breathing life into an older laptop (HP nc6000; WinXP SP3), and I am having some serious (so says the machine) problems that need to be addressed. For now, the most important concerns the COM+ system. The machine tells me it is unstable and needs to be uninstalled / installed (no, I have no disk specifically for this machine...I do have disks for WinXP Pro however, and a disk for my other laptop with WinXP Home on it).

Can anyone advise how to uninstall / reinstall the COM+ system? (a preview of upcoming problems are such things as "Class Not Registered"; clicking on My Computer and watching a flashlight icon go back and forth, forth and back for 3 or more minutes; and, you know, other stuff....)
