   i cant figure out how to disable norton. I have Norton AV 2008. is i safe to run combofix with norton still in the background?

   Yes it is safe. Just ignore any warning from Symantec about it if you get any. You may or may not have problems running ComboFix. There seem to be a lot of people lately who cannot run it for some reason. I just tried it myself today just to make sure there were no changes in the program that were causing this problem. It ran fine for me.
