I have been trying to do the malware removal process on majorgeek site.
Finished in order up to ComboFix; all OK so far.
I did not download ComboFix on desktop directly, but in a folder for downloads.
I missed the step prior to installing it which has one install the recovery desk.
I double clicked to install, and it scanned OK.

My PC connects to Internet and seems to run fine up to this point.
I'm doing this malware removal process because Comast sent me a
security email which claimed my pc is being used to send spam.
I have XP Home SP3, Avast, ZoneAlarm, Spybot, AdAware, SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, running now.

I'm not sure what to do with the ComboFix results.
Please see the log attached. log.txt

Sorry but we do not work from only a ComboFix log. You need to complete ALL of the instructions in the READ & RUN ME in the order written and attach all 4 requested logs.

Also do not modify the instructions for anything. Please follow them as written. ComboFix must be on your Desktop or instructions that we may have to give you later will not work.

So if you ran ComboFix before running SAS, Spybot, and Malwarebytes, you will have to run ComboFix again after the others have been run. Then run MGtools. And then attach all 4 logs.

I finished all the malare removal steps.
    Started on 09-01-08; finished today.
Seems like things are OK on my PC.
Please see the attachments to check out if you agree with my conclusion that things are OK.
I ran Combofix several times, so I have several files to attach for that.

Run this Disable/Remove Windows Messenger to remove Windows Messenger. Do not confuse Windows Messenger with MSN Messenger because they are not the same. Windows Messenger is a frequent cause of popups.

Other than the above, your logs are clean.

Now we need to cleanup some items from running ComboFix.

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixme.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommed you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significan amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
      • Delete the C:\combofix folder from combofix.
    3. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    4. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    6. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    7. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning steps in the READ ME for your Window version and see the steps to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

Tried to save the Registry 4 items you included in your post.
Did not have an option save as type "all files". I saved it as text.
When I double clicked on the desktop fixme.reg txt file, a warning appeared:
"Registry Editor: Cannot import C:Documents and Settings\Default\Desktop\fixme.reg: The specified file is not a registry script. You can only import binary registry files from within the registry editor."
The only save as file options in my XP Home service pack 3 os listed are:
    Web Archive, single file (*.mht)
    Webpage, complete (*htm;*html)
    Webpage, HTML only (*htm; *html)
    Textfile(*txt)

    What next? Thanks.

You have to copy the information into notepad and save it. You are referring to items from your browser or something else and not notepad. You need to use notepad as requested.
