Just moved & transferred Comcast account. Have everything set-up the same as before (behind firewall + router) ... 4 days later daughter tries to connect to Internet from her computer - just as she had the previous 3 days & in previous times. It would not let her connect, it kept asking her to register HER computer with Comcast...she is on the router through my connection? We ran AdAware & she is able to connect with no problems again...?

Anyone hear of this before?? I'd expect from AOL, not Comcast

snuggle i have Comcast in the MD area.... and our internet went down for a few days while they redid their network in my neighorhood or something... sounds like they were upgrading their servers (according to what one operator told my brother)...

during that time, trying to connect to the internet just brought me to a Comcast website asking me to download and install their software...

we waited like 3 days, and then eventually unplugged our Modem, as well as our router, and let everything reset itself... hooked everything back up and voila, our internet worked again...

i'm willing to guess that your daughter ran the spyware scan, and just by coincidence, your internet started working thereafter... i don't think the two were correlated (but i could be wrong)...

    hope that helps

Thanks! There wasn't a problem with my computer accessing internet, just my daughters computer.....Nothing worse than a teenager shrieking "I've been hacked by Comcast!" at 1 am. At 19 she considers herself to be quite computer savvy: with 2 computers, one of them she built herself....but none of her "geek" friends would believe she was hacked by Comcast.

If I'm behind a router, how could they detect that there is more than 1 computer hooked up if they didn't "hack"?
