I cannot imagine how Comcast would think this a fair business practice.
Rent your equipment to customers. Customers have to power it and store it. Then use it for Comcast's own broadband so they don't have to install their own equipment.

Any security types care to comment on having a public internet connection on a home router?

 

Optimum does the same thing where I am. I can go to a friend, or client's home and not have to ask for their key.

It's relatively rural here, and as far as "wardriving" it would not work out so well for you. You need to set up such access via your CableVision account details, so you are "on the grid".

The fact that it's a totally separate channel is what lets them do it, but it should be an option you can have turned off. If it's not a choice, that's the equivalent of corporate fascism in play.

 

I somewhat agree Laura, but I really don't have time to study all the user agreements I get. Just understanding my WoW agreement took some time and they change it often.
People don't read most the the appalling large amount of information sent to them. I just got a five page letter from my house loan people that they MAY sell the loan to another company and to watch my mail for more information.
