In my Task Manager, there is command.exe

I goggled it and it turns out that it's a trojan. Problem is I dont know how to remove it. I tried ending its process but I couldnt because "it's being in use". Also I think this is what's causing the pop ups.

How do I remove this thing?

I dont see the edit button so I'm just going to post again.

I dont know if this problem is related, but now I cannot run my PC in Safe Mode. Once I enter safe mode, I get asked if I want to continue in Safe Mode or use the Restrore point.

Either way I choose, it seems as if the windows is loading. I can see the desktop items and the bar at the bottom. But after that, they disappear and I get asked again if I want to continue in safe mode or w/e. It's bugging me out :(

Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, renaming, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.
    • Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
    • Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
    • After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.
    • When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:
      • CounterSpy - only for Windows XP, 2K, & NT users
      • AVG Antispyware log - ONLY IF NEEDED you were not able to run CounterSpy. - only for Windows XP, 2K, & NT users
      • Bitdefender - from step 6
      • Panda Scan - from step 6
      • runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
      • newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
      • HijackThis
NOTE: You can only attach 3 files in a single message so it will require that you use two messages to attach all of these logs!

Here are the results of my scan. I couldnt do any of the scan in Safe mode because of the problem in my #2 post.
In addition getrunkey.bat and shownew.bat didnt create the log file they were supposed to. I doubled clicked each, press Enter etc and nothing.

Here are the 4 logs that I have.

Yes it is that large because you did not follow the directions in step 1 of the READ ME. You were supposed to delete files from Norton N-Protect, empty the Norton AntiVirus Quarantine, and you were supposed to run Ccleaner on all user accounts. Doing that would have made the log significantly smaller and would have reduced your scanning time. I have attach to this message a copy of what your log would have been if you had run those two 3 steps. Do those three steps now.

Are you extracting all files from the GetRunKey.zip and ShowNew.zip files into a folder?
Are you sure your are running GetRunKey.bat and ShowNew.bat from outside of the ZIP files?
Are you running them from a Windows Explorer session?
Are you getting any of the error messages mentioned on the download pages?

    I need these logs!

It is a VERY BAD idea to allow programs like below to run at startup. You should only run this when you are going to use the program!
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [BitComet] "C:\Program Files\BitComet\BitComet.exe"
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [µTorrent] "C:\Program Files\uTorrent\utorrent.exe"
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [eMuleAutoStart] C:\Program Files\eMule\emule.exe -AutoStart

    Let's start your cleanup!
    • Now Click on Start, then Run ... type services.msc into the box that opens up, and press 'OK'.
    • On the page that opens, scroll down to Command Service
    • then right click the entry, select Properties and press Stop Service.
    • When it shows that it is stopped, next please set the Start-up Type to 'Disabled'.
    • Now repeat the above to Stop and Disable the below two Services (if you do not find them or get any errors, just continue):
      • Network Monitor
    • Click OK until you get back to Windows.
    • Next, run HJT, but instead of scanning, click on the None of the above, just start the program button at the bottom of the choices.
    • At the lower right, click on the Config button
    • Then click the Misc tools button
    • Select Delete an NT Service
    • Copy/paste cmdService into the box that opens, and press OK
    • If you receive any error messages just ignore them and continue.
    • Now repeat the above to delete the below two Services (if you do not find them or get any errors, just continue):
      • Network Monitor
    • Now exit HJT but do not reboot when it tells you it needs to. We will do that further down after running HJT again to fix some other items.
Continue by downloading two tools we will need

    - Process Explorer

    - Pocket KillBox

Extract them to their own folder somewhere that you will be able to locate them later.

Make sure you have rebooted in Normal Mode (do not open any other processes)

Also make sure that one and only one Internet Explorer browser is opened up

    - Run Process Explorer

In the top section of the Process Explorer screen double click on winlogon.exe to bring up the winlogon.exe properties screen. Click on the Threads tab at the top.

Once you see this screen click on each instance of khfdbca.dll once and then click the kill button. After you have killed all of the khfdbca.dll under winlogon click ok. (If you do not find the dll, just continue on.)

Now repeat the above step for the below DLLs (If you do not find the dll, just continue on):
    pmkhh.dll

Next double click on explorer.exe and again click once on each instance of khfdbca.dll and kill it. (If you do not find the dll, just continue on.)

Now repeat the above step for the below DLLs (If you do not find the dll, just continue on):
    pmkhh.dll

Next double click on iexplore.exe and again click once on each instance of khfdbca.dll and kill it. (If you do not find the dll, just continue on.)

Now repeat the above step for the below DLLs (If you do not find the dll, just continue on):
    pmkhh.dll

    Now just exit Process Explorer.

Run HijackThis and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixme.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Now run Pocket Killbox by doubleclicking on killbox.exe
    • select File, Cleanup, Delete All Backups
    • Choose Tools > Delete Temp Files and click Delete Selected Temp Files.
    • Then after it deletes the files click the Exit (Save Settings) button.
NOTE: Pocket Killbox will only list the added files it is able to find on the system. So when you do the below, if some files do not show in the list after pasting them in, just continue.

    Select:
    • Delete on Reboot
    • then Click on the All Files button.
    • Please copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy):

    • Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose Paste from Clipboard.
    • Click the red-and-white Delete File button. Click Yes at the Delete on Reboot prompt.
If you receive a PendingFileRenameOperations prompt, just click OK to continue (But if you do get this message, please let me know!)

If Killbox does not reboot just reboot your PC yourself.

After reboot locate the below folders and delete if found:
    C:\WINDOWS\Sm9zaHVh
    C:\Program Files\Ipwindows
    C:\Program Files\Messenger Plus! 3
    C:\Program Files\Network Monitor

    Now run Ccleaner!

Now attach the below new logs and tell me how the above steps went.

    1. GetRunKey
    2. ShowNew
    3. HJT

Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Reminder Note: Once we have determined you are malware free you will need to disable System Restore, reboot, and re-enable system restore per step 1 of the READ & RUN ME. This only applies to if using WinXP or WinMe.

    Thanks for replying!

After I ran services.msc, the option to Stop Command Service wasnt highlighted. So I skipped to the next step, which is to disable the Start Up and I rebooted before continuing on.

I Fix the things in HJT as you said except these two, which I couldnt find:

    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName =

After doing everything and rebooting, the only folder I have to delete manually was:

    C:\Program Files\Network Monitor

Earlier, when I tried to run GetRunKey and ShowNew, it simply did nothing. I double clicked but nothing happened.. no pop up or anything. But now when I clicked ShowNew, it actually created log files.

Here are the 3 logs you requested.. I hope I'm malware free now!

I'm not sure how you are not seeing them. Take a look at the last HJT log you attached. They are still there. Fix those lines.

We have a lot more to do. Some of the infected files I listed for deletion with Pocket Killbox did not get deleted and the infection has spread. Please make sure that you only reboot when requested. Also after attach your next set of logs, you MUST NOT power down or reboot. You must wait for the next procedure. Reboots after posting logs could cause the symptoms to change (if any remain) and this would make any fix posted incorrect and it would not work.

I will post the next steps in another message as soon as I have time to create them.

In the meantime, please download and use the new version of GetRunKey (just updated) from now on when a log is requested.

Also uninstall Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_05

Also uninstall the Sunbelt CounterSpy trial since we are finished with it now! Then delete the below two folders which may be left behind by the uninstall:
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users.WINDOWS\Application Data\Sunbelt Software
    C:\Program Files\Sunbelt Software

After you complete the instructions give in message # 9, continue with the below.

Run HijackThis and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName =

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [InfoData] rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\system32\gohskgpr.dll",realset

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixme.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.

    • Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose Paste from Clipboard.
    • Click the red-and-white Delete File button. Click Yes at the Delete on Reboot prompt.
If you receive a PendingFileRenameOperations prompt, just click OK to continue (But please let me know if you receive this message!).

If Killbox does not reboot just reboot your PC yourself.

    Now run Ccleaner!
    1. Download this file - combofix.exe
    2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
    3. When finished, it will produce a log for you. Attach this log to your next reply
    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

You still have Network Monitor hiding in your uninstall list. Please run this and then attach the requested log with the others below.

Now attach the below new logs and tell me how the above steps went.

    1. ComboFix log
    2. GetUnKey.txt log
    3. GetRunKey
    4. ShowNew
    5. HJT

Once again, I want to thank you for taking the time to help me.

I ran all the steps you laid out and here are the 4 logs that I have. I'm not sure what GetUnKey.txt log.. that's the only one I'm missing from the 5 logs you requested.

My PC is noticeably better. I dont get anymore pop ups and I'm not sure if this is related or not, but my PC definitely starts up faster.

That looks much better. Just use Windows Explorer to delete the below files:
    C:\WINDOWS\catchme.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\onnmp.bak1
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\onnmp.bak2
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\onnmp.ini
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\qstrsvlj.ini
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\rpgkshog.ini
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\yvkyyvps.ini

Attach a new log from ShowNew after deleting the above. Attach this log now!!!

That's my mistake. I forgot to give you the procedure to run. Run this: Getting Uninstall Programs List From The Registry and then attach the log.

Yes it is related and here are some more tips that will make it even faster to startup and that will improve normal performance.

The below 3 items are not required to load at startup. You should fix these to speed up startup & overall performance.

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WinampAgent] C:\Program Files\Winamp\winampa.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NeroFilterCheck] C:\WINDOWS\system32\NeroCheck.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_01\bin\jusched.exe

The below two items are not necessary to be run at startup. You should check for updates for the programs when you want to check for them and not everytime you start you PC. It's your choice, but you can fix them to speed up startup and overall performance.
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [swg] C:\Program Files\Google\GoogleToolbarNotifier\1.2.1128.5462\GoogleToolbarNotifier.exe
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Update Manager] "C:\Program Files\Rogers\Update Manager\UpdateManager.exe" /background

The below three items should not be loaded at startup. Do you really want to have these three P2P programs loading everytime you start your PC and do you always want to be allowing people from all of the world to be downloading from your PC which will slow your internet experience down and also impact PC performance. You should check in each of these programs for an option that mentions something like "load at boot up" or "load/run at Windows start up" ....etc. and uncheck this option. Otherwise have HJT fix these lines which are slowing your PC down 100% of the time.
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [BitComet] "C:\Program Files\BitComet\BitComet.exe"
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [µTorrent] "C:\Program Files\uTorrent\utorrent.exe"
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [eMuleAutoStart] C:\Program Files\eMule\emule.exe -AutoStart

Doing the above is important since you do need to install an antivirus and a firewall which will have an effect of slowing your PC down but these two programs are necessary for your security. Without them, you will always be infected. My final steps given below will mention installing these applications and give you free programs to use.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. If we used Pocket Killbox during your cleanup, do the below
      • Run Pocket Killbox and select File, Cleanup, Delete All Backups
    2. If we used ComboFix you can delete the ComboFix.exe file and associated C:\combofix.txt log that was created.
    3. If we user SDFix you can delete all the SDFix related files and folders from your Desktop or whereever you installed it.
    4. If we used VundoFix, you can delete the VundoFix.exe file and the C:\VundoFix Backups folder and C:\vundofix.txt log that was created.
    5. If we had your run FixWareOut, you can delete the Fixwareout.exe file and the C:\fixwareout folder.
    6. If we had you run Avenger, you can delete all files related to Avenger now.
    7. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    8. You can delete the ShowNew.Zip and GetRunkey.Zip files and the files that you extracted from the ZIP files. You can also delete the C:\newfiles.txt and C:\runkeys.txt logs that were created
    9. If you are running Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • go back to step 8 of the READ & RUN ME to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

    You're welcome.

One more non-malware item to address. Your uninstall list shows Microsoft AntiSpyware still installed. You need to uninstall this since it has been discontinued and is not supported. If you do not see it in Add./Remove programs, just run the below registry patch.

Now Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
