Does anyone have experience with using any of these registry defragger/cleaner tools? I have read reviews on several different products and none of them look to good. In fact they appear to be quite dangerous. Are there any good ones out there?

Here are some of the programs I have seen listed that do registry defrag but I'm not sure if it is a good idea to use them:

    - Advanced Registry Optimizer 1.3.5
    - Advanced System Optimizer 1.2.1

The above two both appear to be from the same company (SysTweak)
but they changed the name of the program.

    - Registry Compactor 1.1
    - Registry Defragmentation 4.0c Beta
    - Super Rabbit Registry Optimize 5.30

    Chas,
These links will take you to good discussions of reg cleaners and reg optimizers.

I've never heard of the ones you mentioned above, and I haven't seen them reviewed on other forums either. But the ones mentioned in these threads are top-quality, effective utilities. If you don't want to spring for RegSupreme (shareware), RegScrubXP is still extremely good and freeware.

I don't think anything out there does a better job of optimizing than NTREGOPT, and SysFileDefrag is excellent for defragging reg and other system files at reboot.

I tried ARO, didn't like it.

For cleaning RegSupreme is the best I've found.

For defragging/compacting I've used ERUNT and Registry Defragmentation 4.0c Beta with no complaints.

[Edit] Wisewiz has quick fingers tonite :D

    Agreed ;)

RegSupreme is worth every penny of the 13
smackers!....Very efficient and after 5 months
no mistakes...I haven't had it remove anything
which didn't need removing....If you trial it...
just beware of the "key" named jooti....as AlanC
found out for us...it is just a noninjurious entry
by the author of the program....(supposed to
have removed it by now) Also....I think jv16 powertools
is offering regsupreme included with its new prog
if you wanted to try both programs together and
pay one price for both progs....both are shareware.
    Registry Defrag for compacting

WiseWiz, thanks for the links and info on some utilities. Sorry if I posted this question in the wrong spot. I did not notice those links. Good Stuff! :)

alanc & Ezaxs99, thanks for your input too.

Everyone, alot of the discussions revolve around cleaners, optimizers, and defraggers for Win NT,2K, &XP. Any opinions on 9x & Me tools?
