CommoreGaming.com displays an ominous countdown tickerCommodore re-enters the market as a purpose built gaming PC

The Commodore is ready to make a splash back into the computer world with a new gaming computer that will be shown later this month during CeBIT in Germany. Specifics of the computer remain scarce, but Commodore CEO Bala Keilman promises that the new Commodore PC is going to bring the Commodore brand back into the gaming industry.

"25 years ago, Commodore launched the best selling personal computer of the late 20th century, the C64, and defined the early computer games experience for millions of people worldwide," Keilman said in a statement. On the Commodore Gaming website, only a graphical teaser is posted for what will come.

The Commodore gaming PCs will be shown on March 15th, and will be live demo machines which will be playable. "We are privileged and excited to bring the commodore brand back to the gaming community and mark a new chapter in its history with this exceptional machine. We're sure that it will deliver what gamers need and want," said Keilman.

A lady named Jerri Ellsworth (I think I spelled that right) has designed a commodore 64 on a chip, the entire sucker, with all the ports. She did it as a contract work for a C64 on a joystick, but she asked if she could make it complete (with a 1541 emulation on the side) knowing that it wouldn't be used on the joystick itself (the 1541 emulation was, for obvious reasons). The Commodore community promptly figured out how to hack these joysticks (Jerri even gave input) to bring out all the features, including the user port and, more importantly, serial ports and keyboards.

It will be interesting to see if they use this work in their design or start from scratch. Personally I like VICE, a C64/128 emulator for my PC. Works pretty well.

    Good old commadore! :D

All my childhood was spent messing about in basic and waiting hours for tapes, oh the fun!! First the Vic20, then the Commodore64, then came the disks with Amiga500, then the 1200, and them some clown named Gates came along and wrecked it all! :cry

Welcome back I say! Do these pc`s run on Windows?? confused

Yep, but each and every one comes with a C64 emulator and 50 games, at least that is what it says in the promos. They are meant for gamers, so have a pretty good set of specs, and a set of chicken lips on the side of the case. Think Intel dual (or is that quad?) core processors with a good video card.

Not a bad deal, but they are trying to cash in on memories. Unless they are competative, it will only get them so far.
