comp being wierd...

ok heres the thing,
I got this computer about a year ago, and when i started it up it was fine, for about an hour or so then i got the blue screen. So my uncle tried to help me and changed the cpu frequency in the bios (lowered). so my computer ran at 1.66 ghz and seemed to work fine.

the only problem is that i have an amd 2800+ which is supposed to run at 2.08 ghz. I was just wondering if anyone knows why my computer is doing this. It also recognizes the cpu as an amd athlon xp 2200+.

Also, for some reason i think the cpu is overheating, because my computer likes to restart about 2 hours after i boot it. Ive cleaned the fan, but when its idle, the cpu heats up to 57C. thats with the setting at 1.6 ghz. Any suggestions?

sry i made a mistake. it seems to shut down about 20 minutes after i boot it now, not restart. and when i try to turn it on, it stays on for seconds afterwards then shuts off again. The only way it works is if i wait a while, then it actually makes it to first screen of the startup.
