    Hello, new to this.
    Here is my problem:

    have a Dell Inspiron laptop.

All of a sudden, it went to a black screen, with a blue screen form came up and stated it detected an error and shut down for protection.
This happened once before and I had to run the repair software program to even get the computer to come on.
Today, after the shut down, I hit the off button and it shut off. I hit the on buttom and this time it came right back up.
Today I got two Java type/based viruses that were removed.
I got the details this time of the errors, though.

    error signatures:

    BCCode: 1000008e BCP1: C0000005 BCP2: 002CAFDD BCP3: F026998C
    BCP4: 00000000 OSVer:5_1_2600 SP: 2_0 Product: 256_1

    and the technical data:
    C:\DOCUME~\XXXXX~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERec7a.dir00\Mini071905-01.dmp
    C:\DOCUME~\XXXXX~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERec7a.dir00\sysdata.xml

I also got the comp's error log (hs_err_pid2176).
    It starts:

    #
    # An unexpected error has been detected by HotSpot Virtual Machine:
    #
    # EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc0000005) at pc=0x7c9010f3, pid=2176, tid=3388
    #
    # Java VM: Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (1.5.0_02-b09 mixed mode, sharing)
    # Problematic frame:
    # C [ntdll.dll+0x10f3]

    And the THREAD data begins:

    --------------- T H R E A D ---------------

    Current thread (0x065d5418): JavaThread "AWT-EventQueue-2" [_thread_in_native, id=3388]

    siginfo: ExceptionCode=0xc0000005, writing address 0x0690cf2c

And then there is a buch of comp speak data.

    What does this mean?
    Thank you.

For the Java related issue, try uninstalling Java, then installing the latest version from java.com.

Otherwise, when you state that you get a black screen, then a blue screen, are you doing anything prior to this point?

I will be using the comp, then it just dies...it goes black, as if it was not on.
Then a non full screen size blue background comes on and says the computer was shut off to prevent a major error or something.
This time, I hit the off button, and it shut off.
I then hit the on button, and it came on.
When it started, an error alert came on saying a critical error was detected and averted, then the error reporting alert asking if I want to send it to Microsoft.
From the error reporting alert, the error signaures were:
    BCCode: 1000008e BCP1: C0000005 BCP2: 002CAFDD BCP3: F026998C
    BCP4: 00000000 OSVer:5_1_2600 SP: 2_0 Product: 256_1
    And the technical data was:
    C:\DOCUME~\xxxxx~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERec7a.dir00\Mini071905-01.dmp
    C:\DOCUME~\xxxxx~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERec7a.dir00\sysdata.xml
I have the computers error log it made, if you want me post it, I will.

And then there is a buch of comp speak data.

    What is HotSpot Virtual Machine?
When it says EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION, does that mean someone is trying to access my machine?

The viruses were ones that stored in the Java part of my harddrive. Could someone be attempting to call those viruses to exploit the machine?
And if so, if they are deleted, would that cause an error, because their is nothing to exploit?

I will do that. But I think these are viruses that exploit Java, .jar stuff.
I have had about 5 different ones, and two were listed as trojans.
These two from today were not listed as trojans.

Thanks theefool, a few other guys seem to think a Microsoft Windows Java update is at conflict with other programs.
