We have been having issues with a company Y laptop. After 4 times to return to base for service, and according to our service contract, we were given the purchase price back.

So we head off the the store to purchase a replacement. To our delight, Company X has a laptop with more RAM, a larger screen, yada yada yada badda boom - we take home a fresh Company X purchase.

Upon setup, I noticed the time was wrong. I reset it and wondered at this. At registration after removing all the junk from it, there is errors with time. Reset and alarms sound again. Continue with Windows Easy Transfer and you guessed it. Time is wrong again. Call customer service and "must be a BIOS setting" BIOS reset and error again returned after 4 hours. A Google Search finds others with Company X laptop with SAME error and suggestion from others is to return and repurchase. This I did today and before leaving store with new system........ first boot...... time off. Reset and reboot....... time wrong.

I bought a service plan and hope it is a fluke as I am again setting up files.

Maybe return it, and boot the replacement before you leave the store, so you know it works?

My experience is that - between the tons of pre loaded crapware and sometimes iffy quality control - it isn't a question of if you'll have glitches in a store bought PC, it's how soon.

Although I'm not a huge fan of Dell desktops, their business-grade Vostro notebook PCs are worth looking at. Although a bit more expensive, the benefits include little (if any) crapware and a standard warranty that includes next business day on-site service (not having to mail the PC off at your expense or dropping it off at Geek Squad and waiting 4-6 weeks for repair).

If you decide you want an extended and/or accidental damage warranty, go to www.squaretrade.com. They have high ratings for customer service and their warranties are usually about half of what Dell or Best Buy charges.

    Hope this helps. :)

    Hi

Curious issues and not seen those before but quick question is and I take it that the X and Y laptops are from different makers opposed to same make from different suppliers? is that what CPU and windows version is being used?

Laptop #2 (this is not a Dell and I tried to avoid the argument of one over another) was the same issue and it went back today. Both returned units had bad time out of the box.

Subject #3 was off by One Hour exactly and so I had the tech at the store install upgrades and left it for a few hours to see if it went wonky. It did not and I will start the removal of all that is NOT wanted on a new computer soon. The store is great to work with and 14 days to return no questions asked. I was able to save $20 as the price went down to $479.99.
