Compaq Presario 1700T Video issue

Ok guys so here is the deal. I just booted my old Compaq Presario 1700T and instead of the Blue Compaq screen it's red. It does have the Compaq logo as usual but it's red. Also when it final goes through the complete boot, most all the icons appear to be the correct color except for an ABC icon that is red, also all the icons have a very small red border. The top of Windows screens is also a kind of red purple color. I don't want to put a lot of money into this old thing I mean it is usable like it is, but if I could do it cheaply I would prefer to fix it. I know alot of you are saying why not just get a new Laptop, well my company is going away in two weeks so I'm gonna be out on my butt. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You only have two options really,the screen is dying or the video card is dying,run a 3d mark program to check if the video card is on its way out,if it is you'll have to replace the whole motherboard as the video is built into the laptop,its a pretty big job even for someone experienced.

Other than that its the screen,no way of fixing it ,you have to replace it.

Try running this program and look for artifacts "bits of odd rainbow colour,snow,flashing lines ect.",run it back to back a few times to get the latop nice and warmed up,if it locks up your video card is probably on its way out.
