Hi there; I have a huge problem on my hands. I tried to install a Kodak printer on my Compaq Presario SR1901WM. The process froze the computer and so I restarted it. Well, XP would not come up; so then, I tried to be a big boy, and just format the hard drive and reinstall everything...big mistake! Now, regardless of whatever windows CD I use when I get to the point where I can format the drive the computer crashes. I cannot access repair, delete the partition, use recovery, access F8, or collect my freaking $200.00. lol Sorry, I have to laugh at this point. All I can do with the computer is access BIOS and make some changes in there. Now, I will say this, the motherboard does recognize the hard drive and RAM. The motherboard is the MSI MS-7093. It has a Phoenix V. 3.40 and Core V. 6.00PG. The CPU is an AMD Simpron 3200. Now, I have tried booting it with all the various RAM combinations. In other words, there are four RAM slots, and four RAM cards, and I have tried all the possible combinations of booting it with RAM 1 through 4. I have also flashed the bios with removing the battery. So, I am running out of ideas. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you have the recovery partition and it is still intact, try doing a factory restore by pressing F10 during boot. Are there any files on the computer you need? If so, you can get them off using a Live Linux disk like Puppy. From your post, I am not sure if the drive has been formated. I prefer the 5.28 version based on Ubuntu.

If F10 does not work, you can also delete the current partition(s) and create a new partition(s) with either Gparted which is included on Puppy Linux or the Bootable Partition Wizard. You can burn the iso with Imgburn if you have no burning software capable of burning image files.

Hi there tgell. I knew there was something I forgot to include in the post, and you just hit it. The computer does not have a recovery on it; in fact, it should have nothing on it. I took the hard drive out and while having it connected to another computer I completely wiped it out; or at least I thought! See, when I put the hd back in the Compaq, and ran the Windows CD it got to the point where it showed the partitions on the hd. Here is where it gets weird, it says the C drive is still there, and in use, but I know it was wiped out.

Another thing you hit on was getting anything off of it. I do not need anything because I thought I completely removed everything, but like I said Windows CD claims the C partition is still there. I have tried, and no lie, 5 different XP dics some Home, some Media Center, and some Professional. None of them work! lol

Well, thanks for your reply. I appreciate your time, and if you can come up with anything else please let me know!

If you can take the hard drive out, the easiest thing would be to zero out the drive with this utility and then do an install. If it still fails, I would tend to believe you have a hardware problem. If you are not able to do this, there is another way to zero out the drive using the XP install disk.

Hey, thanks again for your help. I tried that, and it did completely wipe out the Hard Drive, but I still had the exact same problem. When I get to the point where I install Windows, it just restarts the computer. So, I am guessing maybe the Mortherboard is messed up. When I can I am going to try another Hard Drive. So, we will see. Thanks again.
