Is there any compatibility issues with Dell and AVG, Zone alarm and modzilla? My sister is having problems with her newish Dell and wants to make sure it wasn't the items downloaded I mentioned above. Thanks for any insights to this problem.

    Modzilla? or Mozilla?

I have had no problems with Dell and running the programs you mentioned.

Maybe if you describe the problems it will help to identify what the cause may be.

Sorry about that, Mozilla Firefox. She uses Bell South to connect, with a dsl modem, ether net. It showed she was connected but neither browser would let her go anywhere. We are reloading, starting with AVG. She is currently using the firewall that comes with windows which is better than nothing.

She dumped everything before contacting me, so I couldn't check to see if the problem was one of them had been set to lock out the internet. Once I am sure the AVG is set right (difficult to do long distance) then we will reload zone alarm, and once that is up and running we will work on Monzilla.

So it shouldn't be a compatibility problem with the Dell? I do know she is using windows xp, but I use xp and have never had the problem.

    Thanks, Nancy

It sounds as if she was running two Firewalls?
Firewalls are not my strong point, but I believe you should run only one.
Has she been able to connect before?

No, she had disabled the windows firewall (well, my son did) when he set up zone alarm but, turned it back on this afternoon so she could go online long enough to download the AVG. Having it there (the windows firewall) but disabled is not a problem since I have been running mine that way for almost 2 years now.

Yes, before downloading the AVG, Zone alarm and Monzilla she didn't have a problem getting online, of course it was her first day. She just dumped them all before I got a chance to see what the settings on AVG and Zone alarm were.

It is also possible that my son just copied them from his laptop and stuck them on her pc which might have been the problem. I still need to check on that.

So is she able to connect now?
If she is downloading AVG then I suppose so.
There must be something she checked in the Zone Alarm that was blocking her.
If it continues after installing Zone Alarm then that must be the culprit.
Have you ran any Ad-Ware programs to check for malware?
There are some here to try out....

Hijack This is not an Adware sniffer, so if you are not familiar with it then don't worry when it shows the results. It is used for identifying running processes. Have help with it if needed.

That is what I figured but, she dumped everything before I could check. ~sighs~ Since the computer is new, I don't think malware is the problem. I do intend for her to do the "read and run me first" sticky. I figure that will familiarize her with the workings of her computer better than anything I can tell her. It will be a great learning experience for her. She has never owned a personal computer just a company one (very large company) so everything was done elsewhere and she never even had to think of it.

    Thanks again, Nancy
