complete newbie, be gentle

I have read the posts about what to do before HJT. What I do not understand is this: You are not supposed to use more than one anti-virus software. If I download and run Ewido, will that conflict with fix-it professional 6? Can I do ALL of those thinghs suggested in succession, or do I have to remove stuff in between? And how do I get out of safe mode?

And how can I find out if I actually have a firewall? I think fix-it disabled the Windows firewall and anti-virus when I installed it, because Spy-Bot shows it as a red entry.

Norton on-line scan says I have no anti-virus software. Fix it will not update, and the install/remove programs function says it cannot find the Fix-it (v-com) thread.

Is this even the right place for this? I could explain what has happened to my computer if anyone wants to know.

 

Ewido is not an Antivirus program and will not conflict with FixIt. You do everything listed in our tutorial in the order listed. Nothing needs to be removed in between. To get out of Safe Mode just restart the computer.

FixIt does not come with a Firewall, that I am aware of. I am not familiar with the FixIt AV engine. I don't know if it is their own or licenced from another company. I Norton reporst No AV found then there is a good chance that one is not installed.
