Complete system crash! Can anyone advise or help?

Hi! This is my first post. Sorry if its in the wrong thread? Can anyone help me or advise as to what the problem could have been, that caused my computer to crash and make it unuseable at the moment? Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

I bought a Sony Vaio pc two months ago. Everthing has been fine until yesterday, then it crashed!!
I was playing Rome Total War, half an hour into the game it froze, a few seconds later it started working again but there were white speckles on the screen and a few minutes later the game froze completely and the graphics became distorted. I could'nt quit the game so I had to switch the computer of at the mains.
When I switch the computer back on again I received this message at the top of my screen. Couldn't open drive(0)disk(0)fdisk(o) NTLDR: couldn't open drive multi(o)disk(o)pdisk(o). The screen was and is completely black. I cannot get to my desktop no matter what I try. I cannot use the restore point or the restore disk as I have no desktop, icons or disk drives. I've tried going via the bias(f8), but it still boots up to the black screen. I did get to my desktop once, but the graphics were disappearing and reappearing, the icons froze when I put the mouse cursor over them and it looked like it was close to crashing again. Has anyone got a clues as to what happened? Could it be a hardware fault, software fault or power surge or something else? Any help would be appreciated!

 

I guess you are using Win2k/WinXP. It seems you harddisk have taken the stairway to heaven, or broken some important files in the crash.

You could try to boot in Recovery Console using the Win2k/WinXP-Install-CD, and run this command:
