Friend brought around a com and asked me to have a look at it with a view to upgrading. I'm assured all was working before he left home. Plugged it in and absolutely nothing works Zilch, no fans come on, no lights, totally dead. Have tried another new PSU the same result, have stripped out and checked press button switch, that seems ok, took out battery, no good. reseated memory/graphics card no good. bare bones boot. no good. Checked on Luckystar site and DL'ed manual and all wiring correct. Specs as far as i can gather are.

    Mobo Luckystar 6VA694 Ver.1.0 /
66/100/133 MHZ FSB (dont know what its set at)
    64 mb pc 100 ram / socket 370/ VIA VT82C694X chipset

    any ideas plz..

If you have the mobo manual, check it to make sure everything is jumpered properly and no DIP switches are out of place.

Then I would try replacing the system board... :(

Yes I agree Mada this is now one 'EX' mobo, have double checked wiring with manual and did another Bare Bones boot with the new PSU, and that is the only conclusion I can come to. Thanx for your interest.

I take it you did do the simple thing of checking the fuse in the plug? ;)

Ha! Yeah, we should be careful not to overlook anything. Heh, make sure of that, and that the outlet provides power. Hate to toss a mobo because of an oversight...

Not being of Millionaire status and a charlie chuck-away mentality I have purchsed another mobo for $20 on ebay thus being able to fix and return to the owner who intends to give it to his 5 year old daughter. In future if you have any 'Dump' components may be you could contemplate donating it to charity rather than throwing recoverable goods away.

Not to mention recycling! Computer waste is a HUGE issue of late. Most vendors are becoming more responsible in their manufacturing process, but older PCs can contain very damaging materials.

If you need to be rid of old electronics, search google. I would wager you can find a free component recycling service in your area.
