Compressed folder isn't very compressed

Hi, I tried compressing a Word document using Win XP compressed folder, and it compressed the document from 15 MB down to 14 MB! Is there any obvious reason why I didn't get a substantial compression? The document has a lot of graphics.

I don't have any Word documents of any substantial size, but I do have lots of Adobe .pdf files which are similar in content. I tried zipping a few of these using different compression programs and saw no real savings in size. I think it's just the nature of these types of files; I think they're already pretty compressed when they're created. Nothing is wrong with your PC, what's happening is normal

 

Thanks so much for the explanation! 15MB is supposedly within Gmail's limit, but it just doesn't want to upload. I can send the file via Skype, not a huge problem.

My bigger problem right now is that my laptop is overheating and shutting down whenever I try to run something CPU-intensive like Spybot. The utility I have to monitor temp says 95F right now, but right near the fan it's almost too hot to touch. Poor thing has the flu?

for now put the laptop up on something so air can get underneath and then make new post in the hardware support forum so the right people can see your problem.

 

try 7-zip's ultra compression you might be able to squeeze it a bit more..it also has the option to split a large file into parts.
