Compulsions, got any?

As with many of my threads, this one was sparked by another where we were talking about being sentimental and odd things we do.

So I'm curious, any of you have any weird/odd/normal compulsions or habits?
Or do you know someone who has one?

I have several, I'm quite odd all round really :-D
But one that people have noticed and asked me about is my ... "thing" with odd and even numbers.
Everything must be equal, for example, if I'm pushing a shopping cart and accidentally kick the wheel, as I'm sure many or all of you have done, I then have to kick the other wheel with the other foot with approximately the same force, if I kick it too softly I have to kick it again and then kick the first one again but softly.
If I turn round 180 degrees, I have to turn back, I even do this while playing games, I'll have to spin the camera round if I enter a room and turn round twice in the same direction while in a gun fight, once it's over I have to turn back round twice to "Reset" my line.
Sometimes it's worse than other times, the worst one that made me say out loud "You need help :-D " was driving to a store, got out of the car, went in the store, came out, got in my car and drove away.
I then realised I had made a full 360 turn through the getting out of the car and getting back in.
I shrugged it off for a few minutes and then actually pulled over and got out of the car and turned round :-D

People I work with have notice me "Do little turns" at times and asked me why, I then either explain it or tell them I'm practising dance moves :-D

Oh my lord, while typing this I'm thinking "You need help" :rolf

Anyway, anyone else or am I the only lunatic here? :major

Edit: I forgot to explain why :-D , I actually know the reason for my compulsion, when I was very young, just starting to learn maths.
The teacher was explaining the difference between Odd's and Even's, she taught us by telling us that Odd's are evil and Even's are Good.
The idea being that Even's are easier to work with in general, but somewhere along the line I took that literally and have always though anything "Odd" like the turning round or kicking wheels, is bad luck.

Yes I'm superstitious too :-D , I come from a fishing town, what do you expect!

I'm pretty sure, I've already listed these here somewhere... :-D

While I'm not superstitious, there are somethings that just really bother me that if I come across and don't fix, it will bother me until I do, or if I can't it will bother for a long time. :-D

Toothpaste - I hate it when I see tubes squeezed in the middle! I do care where I am, if I'm in your bathroom and your tube of toothpaste is clearly squeezed in the middle I will fix it. I just have too.

Cereal boxes - It really bothers me to see cereal boxes when they bulging in the middle from the cereal not being distributed properly in the box after pouring yourself a bowl. Again, I must fix it.

Picture frames - I can't see or walk by a picture frame that is not hanging properly. I must stand there and straighten them until they are perfect, especially if it's one out of a group of frames that is hanging crookedly.

Before I leave the house, I always check no less than 3 times, usually in a row, that I have my keys. The same thing with making sure the door is locked.

I have a certain order with things have I have placed on my desk (tape dispenser, stapler, etc) it's ok for them to be moved around during the day (only by me though, if someone else moves them I must move them back to their spot before they can be used again) but when I leave, everything has to be in it's place.

I know I have the makings of an OCD person but I don't think I'm really that bad. :-D

Ned and dy, you guys need help. Fred you're ok.:-D

Lines that should be straight, should be straight. So I straighten pictures too.
And, come to think of it, I fix a bulging cereal box as well. Just a quick shake.

@Fred... oddly enough, that didn't surprise me in the slightest :-D

If I see someone with a tag sticking out of the neck of their shirt, I will fix it. Even strangers on the street. My excuse is that I am a professional dresser, and it's part of my job to make sure actors are completely put together before I send them on their way. LOL

Other than that, not really much. Superstitions by the bucket, but then I do theatre for a living and it's part and parcel with the job. Compulsions, though, really just the tag thing. My life is barely controlled chaos as it is. :-D

If I eat I'll eat the fries first then the burger,or all the veg then the chicken.

If I'm working on a project I'll get the boring things over with then do fun things.

This is almost my code for life, there's always something to look forward

But some times I take it too far,say if two shows are on TV that are about the same quality I'll drive myself nuts trya work out which one to watch,I'll start one then stop it and switch back a couple of times.

    I don't know if it's a compulsion or just an eccentricity.:confused

I Google far too may facts, I hate not knowing what something is or how it works.

Fred's house is situated on Omaha beach,he has to pass 3 German pill boxes to get to work:-D

Took out the Germans last week, fixed up the pill boxes for kids to wait for the school bus. Not too sure about the new folks down the road. One of them looked at me funny the other day. Have my eyes on them. :-D

Me...Hmm - I am fussy about "everything in it's place", I like to know exactly where everything is. It really ticks me off, losing valuable time looking for stuff. Yeah, I like straight picture frames and clocks, too. I'm fussy about knowing the EXACT time, and have countless clocks and watches around the place and on my person. I like monitors, T.V. screens, glasses and so on to be spotless. Oh yeah, I hate bulging cereal boxes, too. All food, cans and bottles n the pantry and refrigerator must be label side forward so I can read them without picking them up.
I dunno if this makes me compulsive, pedantically fussy, a perfectionist, or just a nutter - you decide.LOL

Way back in your pantry, I turned one of the cans upside down, and faced the label to the back. Tilted one of your pictures one degree to the right. :-D

I suppose i am a bit like Barry (Phantom) i need to know everything is in it's proper place.
My garage and workshop have boards on the wall with all the tools visible and arranged in order so i can see any particular tool at a glance and i go crazy if there is a piece missing, even when putting dirty dishes in the sink they have to be in order of size (largest at the bottom) and all the utensils must be on the right.
I do not believe in horoscopes but i am a Virgo and it says i am fastidious well they got that right.

Let me think?:-D Fred was alive during WW2 and is currently engaged in a time war with Nazi's who keep going back in time to change the past to change history and hence every day Fred has to check he has bullets and foil the Nazi's trying to stop the allied landings on Omaha beach before going to work.

Without this simple check every day the the civilised world would fall to fascism.

It really is quite simple rolleyes:-D

You may be wondering why Fred has his location listed as Louisiana instead of the coast of France well that's because the time machine can travel through space also much like the Tardis.

    Ha!

In general, I feel much better after reading this thread. Either I'm not as crazy as I thought, or I am, but it doesn't matter, because so are most other people. :-D

Personally, I click my spoon on the edge of my coffee cup three times after stirring. Not 2, not 4, 3 dammit!

The bowls in my cabinet need to be stacked in fours and lay evenly ... exactly evenly.

I must start and end stairs on my left foot, even if it means skipping one.

I pace other people walking to my own step, then figure out how far apart we'll be in 1000 steps.

My son and I play a game of either having each word in our sentenced have even letters, or the sentence having even words, or both. Honestly here, my son did this on his own, I started doing it with him so he wouldn't feel weird.

Oh.. and when my ex was still here, we were always walking in step, no matter what.
we'd be walking together and I'd start to cross my legs while I walked and we were still in step with each other.

  24. Spock96

Let's try to explain through words.
Start walking and put your left foot directly in front of your right when you step and your right foot directly in front of your left when you step, basically crossing your thighs.
Made her laugh and me almost fall due to not seeing the un even part of the sidewalk.

Now who's using tiny fonts? :p

Back on topic, today at work I realized I also hate papers that aren't stapled uniformly together. I must un-staple, straighten, then re-staple them. I feel the same way if a piece of paper is cut and it's not straight across. I'm starting to guess I just have this problem with things that aren't straight/uniform. :-D

  35. Spock96

    Spock96 Major Geek 'Spocky'

May I ask why marry them, when you know what they know. Just go back and beat them to the idea. rolleyes then you'll have all the jingle etc and not be tied to either one....... Unless that is you want to be I guess, but therefore that would make this comment void.

Oh, gonna have to go back and change that now, but Dy has to use the time machine when it's needed. :cry

Yep, why be so devious if you have time machine? When you could just "invent" the P.C., iPhone, ect. ...Or better still- just sell your time machine invention. You could be the first Dr.Who for real, eh.

I am compulsive about posting stupid pictures on this Board, but then you already know that ;). Oh dear! My font has shrink, too. I must stop washing my monitor screen whilst logged on.

    Me toorolleyes

Not in the way you probably think,to work through problems and ideas often have a conversation in my head between both sides of the argument, sometimes the discussion gets a bit heated and vocalise parts of the debate.:-D Yeah not only to I cause arguments here I argue with myself

I also find the easiest way to learn complex ideas is to read about it then try to teach in to a person in my head, I just find it easier to visualise a problem from an explanation point of view.

Again not a compulsion just an eccentricity.

Caliban I don't need no steenkin' title!

I play chess. Constantly. Especially online, at http://www.chess.com/.

I quit playing Blitz chess (5 minute games). I now play Bullet (2 minutes), because I can cram more games into a session.

It's not uncommon for me to play 50 games in a row - by the time I've had enough, my legs and hand (right-handed on the mouse) are cramped, my eyes are red from the strain, I forget to eat...

    I'm obsessed with chess...:-o
